The Four Feathers

Faced with a dancefloor full of arch eighties revivalists and cool-as-a-cucumber electro posers, you have to wonder where the real clubland hedonists are all hiding. Thank goodness, then, for Manchester’s No Life, a band who are strongly committed to having a good time, all the time. As CityLife discovered when we met them earlier this year (after the boys were recovering from an epic five-day bender), the Manc trio firmly belong to this city’s lineage of great dance-rock pioneers – by being a band who parlay their hedonism straight into their musical output. Twenty-four hour ravers with backgrounds in this city’s clubbing scene, No Life are making a strong point of wrestling electro-pop away from the poser brigade and planting it straight back on the 4am dancefloor. That’s not to say there isn’t precision at work here – their music combines the dense beats of UNKLE and Death In Vegas with the pop mania of Human League – but No Life are thankfully not the self-conscious type, mainly because they’re too busy trying to party themselves unconscious…
