I'm hugely in love with the sound of this bass and pedal as a combination - so much clarity, aggression and power. I recorded the main riff from "Icarus Lives!" and overlaid it over the album track to demonstrate.

Dingwall Afterburner ABXXX + Darkglass B7K test

I finally got around to making a quick test clip of what Toontrack's Made of Metal pack can do. These are by far the best sounding virtual drums I've come across, in every aspect.

Toontrack - Made Of Metal Test Clip

Hi guys,

This is a new mix of mine, I decided to do a cover of a couple of riffs from 7 Horns 7 Eyes' track "Vindicator" as it features one of my all-time favourite mixes.

I'm using my brand new custom ViK Duality 7 string, which is a phenomenal guitar in every respect. The pickups are custom made by Vik himself. The guitar tone is courtesy of the Axe-FX Ultra, using the 5150 amp model for rhythm and the USA Lead 2 amp model for leads, all with stock cab IRs. Drums are Superior 2.0 (Mostly the "Evil Drums" expansion), and the bass track is Trillian.

Had a jam around with the Dæmoness 7 string this afternoon, it's a fun guitar to play slower stuff like this on.
This might end up in a Red Seas Fire song, who knows...


Heavy Groove idea

Here's a very repetitive clip of the Bare Knuckle Emerald bridge pickup I now have installed in my Dæmoness Cimmerian 7-string. I absolutely love this pickup! Tight like a ceramic pickup, but much smoother in the extreme highs, super clear, and sounds huge!
This is only double-tracked by the way. The equipment is the usual Axe-FX/Toontrack/Trilian.

Got inspired while giving my Dæmoness some TLC earlier. Love how brutally aggressive this guitar sounds.

Brutal Modulation Idea

This is a brief test with a custom Alnico V Black Hawk 7 bridge pickup installed into my Dæmoness 7-string. It's pretty much the purriest pickup I've ever heard! I'm planning on repeating the same clip with a ceramic Black Hawk 7 to compare the two magnet types. 

This zip file contains the guitar DIs for both the Alnico and Ceramic Black Hawk, along with a drum and bass backing track so you can evaluate the pickups through your own rig of choice and hear them in context.

Nolly - Bareknuckle Black Hawk(Alnico) pickups test (Reamped)

This is a brief test with the Ceramic Black Hawk 7 bridge pickup installed into my Dæmoness 7-string, in comparison with the custom Alnico V version demonstrated in this clip: http://soundcloud.com/nolly/alnico-black-hawk-7-test

To my ears, the comparison exemplifies the difference in character when moving between an Alnico V and Ceramic magnet - the Ceramic is distinctly tighter and more refined with a brighter top end, where the Alnico V is richer and bigger sounding, with more of what I describe as "purr".

Stratty Heaven

Here's the same MIDI as the Metal Foundry test, this time using Metal Machine so people can hear the differences between the kits. Metal Machine is a lot more polished to my ears, and is of course partly processed to begin with.
I used the Ludwig kit, with the Black Beauty snare and default cymbals.

Messing around with the B7K in Fat mode, with one of the Dingwalls. Sounds so good! Ignore the playing it was just a one-taker to demonstrate the tone, my fingerstyle really isn't that great haha

Darkglass B7K - Dirty Rock

As soon as I heard the massive-sounding snares in Toontrack's new Rock Solid EZX (recorded by Randy Staub) I wanted to try them in a heavy mix context. I made this drum mix based around that idea, blending my favourite kit elements from the Avatar, Metal Machine and Metal Foundry packs in there too.

pretty sloppy but you get the point. if you make a mistake, these pickups will show it. also my cable was nibbled on by my cat, causing the hum/noise/ground
