insanely proud to team up with the mighty Ze Records 
(Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Was Not Was, Lio...) 
for an exclusive re-edition of Garçons' no wave gem 
"Re-Bop".

The limited 12" vinyl includes the original song by 
Marie et les Garçons produced by John Cale, its 
infamous "Re-Bop Electronique" rework and a 
dancefloor-ready and Ivan Smagghe-approved edit by 
Tel Aviv producers Red Axes.

Garçons originated from Marie et les Garçons, a punk 
band from Lyon, France formed in the 70s by Patrick 
Vidal, Eric Fitoussi, Jean-Pierre Charriau and Marie. 
Quickly achieving cult status thanks to edgy releases, a 
performance at New York's legendary CBGB and 
sharing stages with Patti Smith and Talking Heads, 
the band lost Marie at the end of the decade and 
morphed into Garçons, a trio pursuing mutant disco 
and no wave fantaisies. The rest is history: a short 
career celebrated in the underground, a deserved place 
in France's best kept secret hall of fame, and a whole 
lot of timeless music.

One of the most mysterious and outsider 'Soca' 45s out there by H.M. 'These Eyes' Timothy. The A-side 'Let Me Love' sounds like doo wop recorded with Oluko Imo's gear. And the B-side 'Soca Hustle' sounds like the Residents jamming a Marvin Whoremonger song with Augustus Pablo. The original 45 is so obscure that even his siblings didn't know that he made music. And rumour has it that, frustrated by its lack of success, Michael threw most of the copies of the 45 in the valley beside his family's house in the hills just outside Port Of Spain.

Captain Planet has been on a roll over the last year, with the release his acclaimed debut album “Cookin’ Gumbo”, an expansive European tour, and a steady stream of head-turning remixes for heavyweights like Ana Tijoux, Katy B, AM & Shawn Lee, The Pimps of Joytime, Scrimshire and more. Now the wayfaring dj/producer returns to Bastard Jazz for a very special cassette tape project entitled “Mystery Trip Vol. 1”.
 
Approaching the project with a classic mixtape mentality and drawing inspiration from Madlib’s “Medicine Show” series, the Captain has sourced out sounds from all corners of the globe. Obscure cuts were ripped from vinyl, then sliced, diced, chopped and skewed with a hefty injection of original production, programming and homegrown field recordings from his travels around the world.  What’s resulted is a 45 minute multi-generational sonic journey, touching on sounds from Senegal, Jamaica, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Guadeloupe, and Zimbabwe, that reflect the depth of the Captain’s crates and his skills behind the boards. “Mystery Trip” is not just a DJ mix nor a collection of simple edits but rather an entirely new piece of work from C.P. - a love letter  to the funky sounds of our planet and the rare vinyl it hides in dusty junk shops, back alleyways, basements and attics.
 
Each limited-edition “Mystery Trip” Cassette tape comes with a free digital download of separated tracks/edits, along with the full digi-mix. As an added bonus, Captain Planet is hand-painting an exclusive batch of Walkmen with his own one-of-a-kind designs, which will be available as a premium pack with the tape at the Bastard Jazz store. Afrolicious brings musical treats for you to feed your mind, body and soul which mixes a love of dj and dance culture along with a passion for organic soulful live music from around the world. With their first official release "A Dub for Mali" they have created a recipe that will satisfy diverse musical palettes, with elements of Afro-Beat and Disco brought together for 'Thursday Night Kinda Swing', Electro-Dub, reggae and down-tempo on the title track 'Foolin' and a funky mix of Malian blues, psychedelia and beats on 'A Dub for Mali' the ep is a reflection and a taste of the wide spectrum of sounds that have been cultivated weekly at the San Francisco based Afrolicious party, hosted by real life brothers Pleasuremaker and Señor Oz.Afrolicious' debut features some outstanding vocal performances from Burkina Faso's Yacouba Diara and Trinidad's Fresh is Life; locked in percussion and scatting vocals of Baba Duru,tight horn work of Billy Magic and Aaron Lebowitz and the wicked slide guitar, funky bass and arrangements of Joey "Pleasuremaker" McGuire.Produced by Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation the tracks were recorded in an improvisational atmosphere that helped capture the magic of the Afrolicious party environment, a place where magic might happen if you give it a chance.The vibe of the Afrolicious party and the years of working with outstanding musicians, vocalists and djs in clubs all over are captured on this release.
