Described by many (for example, Sam Binga) as looking like Scouse icon Paddy The Baddy, only soft, floppy-haired maverick Fonzo can certainly pack a punch with the tunes, la.

This two-tracker on Bristol’s No More Mailouts sees the wannabe UFC fighter steal a bike made of 160bpm electro before doing a sick wheelie on it la (Flake), before blending jungle breaks with proper steppers bass on ‘Lethargy’, jortameanlike? Sound.

Both tunes have an air of understated strength and focused intent, similar to Jimmy Corkhill mid-skag-acquiring scheme. And both tracks will incite the kind of dancefloor reaction that could make Steven Gerrard punch a DJ in a drunken fracas—and if we’re lucky, that DJ might even be Sir Hiss.

Please note: Fonzo is not scouse but should certainly consider it. La.

A staple of London club culture, Seoul-born Oh Annie Oh has become synonymous with high energy DJ sets that express her self-aware-but-playful persona with tons of attitude, seamlessly fusing curated club reworks, thumping kicks and sub-bass dives. Annie first discovered her passion for London’s nightlife when she relocated to the city from Toronto. Finding her way behind the decks shortly after, she has developed a distinct style that has earned the seal of approval of globally-renowned artists, fellow DJs and iconic brands. With her debut EP, Block N Delete, Annie has taken the next step in her creative career. Released via Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce label, the record chronicles the creation and destruction of a romantic relationship in the digital age and is a nonsense love letter to the club.  Fusing bass, techno and UKG, the four tracks immerses listeners into Annie’s euphoric brand of nihilism; encouraging listeners to dance through emotions at 4AM rather than doomscrolling alone at home.  Block N Delete comes off the back of a busy summer, with London residencies and festival sets, including Glastonbury, where she has been teasing her own music in front of crowds for the first time cementing a strong beginning of an exciting career as a producer as well as a DJ. Pinch & Kahn ft. Killa's Army - Crossing The Line

Samurai Breaks unleashes unadulterated breakbeat pressure in the form of the ‘Putting in Werk EP’. Jungle roots and early hardcore vibes feature heavily throughout and with years of experience under his production belt, this new offering is nothing short of a musical education.

Title track vibes a run with ‘Putting in Werk’. A hip hop sampled frenzy full of vocal stabs, rave breaks and an array of ‘92 vibes. All this mixed with an up to date time signature, crisp production and a bucket load of atmosphere.

GQ is certainly the greatest host to ever do it in the jungle scene, probably why he gets sampled so much and ‘Power Hour’ is no exception to the rule. MC vibes flood through the speakerbox, taking you back to the 5-6 in the morning time slot with gritty eyeballs, sore noses and trainers sticking to the concrete. Shouts to Private Caller on this one.

You can’t produce an EP like this and forget about synth chord stabs right? Thankfully ‘Rush’ delivers on all aspects of the requirements and rocks both a tidy sequence of DX7 flavours and rough, tough and somewhat dangerous to your speakerbox breakbeats.

‘Bad Boy Beats’ wraps up the EP in true to form style. A rollercoaster ride of borderline early happy hardcore meets breakbeat techno. Chuck in some jungle vocal samples and what you have here is the perfect end to this trip and the gateway to the next episode.

Ravers rejoice as Samurai Breaks has brought back Fantazia, Obsession and The Edge all at once here. If you remember then good on you and if you want an education into the world of early hardcore.. raise up your hands and leave that iPhone in your pocket.
