NNS010: Make love, dark-browed 12" (Snippets)
The album from an association of Ukrainian artists called Noneside brought musicians and painters together under the famous words of the writer Taras Shevchenko and his poem «Make love, o dark-browed ones..». The painting «Holubka Dance» by contemporary figurative artist Iryna Maksymova frames the trance and tech house music of such performers as @shjva (Warning, Terra Magica, Viscera), @Lostlojic (Secret Feta, Infinite Pleasure, Deeptrax), @SaturatedColor (Neptune Discs, Nerang), @peshkamusic (Visionquest, Re.Face, Banoffee Pies) and @yevheniiloi. Mastered by Taras Bril, also typefaces of Ivan Tsanko-Khlibovych used in design. First of all, this is the music of love and unity, wherever you are - at home in the kitchen or on the big festival dance floor - common feelings will unite you and spin you in a crazy rhythm, and will make you understand that we are not strangers. Animalia presents the first in a series of 2 x 12” compilations… For volume one, comes Microevolutions… An homage to the label’s continued growth and evolution, a label dedicated to authentic celebrations of talented local artists. Here, Animalia returns to its roots with a release compiled by the members of Menage (plus special guests Ebbs n Flow), all compiled in the northern suburbs of Naarm (Melbourne).  The compilation showcases the various moods and facets that make up the deep yet somehow undefinable Animalia sound.  From deep techno to UK garage and everything in between, Microevolutions is an earnest reflection of the diversity of sound that makes Animalia so special.

In original form his single ‘Hexaline’ is an intense and driving bit of techno with majestic synth patterns that light up the whole track as they dance up and down the scale whilst the slick drums power on below. It’s a terrific techno cut for the peak of the night to get hands in the air, with a powerful sound courtesy of Ulrich Schnauss’ masterful mixdown.
Hiroshi Watanabe then steps up to remix after strong outings on labels like Transmat earlier in the year. He is one of Japan’s leading electronic producers on labels likes Mule, King Street Sounds and Kompakt and here he totally reworks the track into a nine minute techno symphony with icy drums doing a restless dance as swirling pads bring a cosmic feel. It’s epic, elegant techno that takes you on a real trip.
The next remix is from A.Mochi, one of Len Faki’s key label associates on Figure and someone with a live PA and DJ set that leaves you spellbound. From CLR to Mote-Evolver he has released on the best contemporary techno labels and played at places like Berghain so is an unquestionably vital artist. His excellent rework is deep, slow burning and hugely atmospheric, with pensive pads and tender one-finger synth notes ringing out into the sky.
