One morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that he’s been transformed into the 5/8 mix: radio by Tobleronchik.

Not only the passionate love for our boy Franz Kafka, whose line from "Metamorphosis" we shamelessly cut for this post, binds us with a strong thread to the Czech Republic. Along with our unnatural addition for the Budweiser beer, there is also acquaintance with Balzhan Bekenova aka Tobleronchik, a DJ and a resident of the underground collective Kava, whose name only making the bodies of the Prague’s club kids move like a fish in the waters of the Vltava.

It's completely pointless to write about the Tobleronchik mix - just turn it on and start sliding through the flow of life like an enchanted Czech carp while it's playing.

GOST ZVUK x Dublab: guest show with Andrey Ramonov

A mixtape made by Palmbomen exclusively for Vice magazine. Palmbomen is an upcoming disco/italo artist and lo-fi protagonist on NON Records. His approach on this mixtape was to combine well-produced disco from the late 70's and 80's with today's disco and cassette cassanovas like Washed out, Neon Indian, Renkas, and others. 
Nice side note is that he also shows his love for more obscure dutch electro such as Polarius' gem 'Apollo Park', Jan Turkenburgs italo track 'In My Spaceship' mixed by Ed Bangers current flagholder Breakbot, and dutch sesame street hit 'Apendans' made by some tv-hotshot with a 707 in the 80's, lets also not forget 'We Just' by Moses flawlessly playbacked at toppop in the 80's during the sampler-hype. And then of course Renkas and Palmbomen himself.

«Souvenir» is a mix series representing the repertoire of Soviet jazz performers. Series acquaints listeners with the legacy of all-original jazz bands which worked in USSR. Only on the verge of the sixties, Soviet musicians started to construct their own stylistic identity as a mean of alienating themselves from the American canon. Folklore sound and traditional instruments were crucial elements which helped musicians to forge and channel their uniqueness.

Third «Souvenir» represents one variation upon this unique sound, which is mostly quiet, tranquil and not organized around the rhythmic structures. It has been partly inspired by the «In A Silent Way», recorded by Miles Davis in 1969. This album is celebrated as one of his best releases, and K. Leander Williams from Time Out New York labeled it as the "proto-ambient masterpiece." Later on, in 2002, this album charted 20th position in the list of «25 Most Influential Ambient Albums of All Times».

Compilation of the mix required digging into the culture of southern Soviet republics and watching post-perestroika noir flicks, which were soundtracked with gems of Soviet jazz. In fact, the mix "weaves" together with an assertion of short excerpts, and only a couple of tracks are played in full. The sound matter is literally pulsating; this pattern governs the whole mix, and only by the end of it the theme reaches the climax.

Boris Deart (real name Boris Monastiryov) was a soviet composer active in the 80s and 90s who described his own works as “romantic spacesynth”. After spending his early career years in the role of session musician, Boris switched to solo works, composing his own original music, as well as recording sounds and producing tracks for other artists and collectives. His most popular composition 'Ecology' featured at the soviet TV. After releasing several solo albums he started having financial difficulties resulting in a loss of his production studio in 1997. His family broke up when he started drinking heavily, while working as a taxi driver. In December 2005, aged 39, he was found dead in his Moscow apartment. With the help of Boris Deart’s brother and local enthusiasts we have found unreleased music of this unrecognised and underrated composer, which I am happy to share in a form of this mixtape.
