Up this week with a massive two hours of 909 kick-fuelled punishment and bleeps-splashed sonic enigma, leading British techno trader and Modwerks chief operator Ø [Phase] fires off the goodies in spectacular, unrelenting fashion. Known for his brutalist compositions that merge the precision of chiselled drum programming with deep-end, otherworldly abstraction, Ø [Phase] gets the sci-fi-informed vibes pouring down in torrents. A continuously morphing kaleidoscope of sound blazing with intense acid flashes and eschatologic cavalcades, this powerhouse mix most certainly encompasses all the distinct flavours that make Ø [Phase] so prodigiously singular.

In the early 90s, techno hits Japan. Surprised and intrigued, Takaaki Itoh was impressed with this sound. This unique style of beats revealed the gateway to a world of underground music in Japan, something he had never heard before.
Surprise slowly gave way to addiction when Takaaki Itoh heard the sound of such artists like UR, Derrick May, Axis, Hardfloor, Sven Väth, Harthouse, Warp and Rising High. 
Finding out he just couldn't get enough of it, in 1994 Takaaki Itoh began to organise his own techno parties in Norioka Iwate, having success by providing fantastic line ups.

In 1996, he decided that it was time to start making his own tracks, so he went out, purchased the vital instruments and began producing. 
After sending out 3 finished tracks to various labels, Electracom UK made the first contact with him, and followed to release his first track. This moment was something he will never forget, as for the first time in his life he was able to finally release his own record. 
Then several releases followed and he began to appear in DJ charts and magazines all over the world.

Takaaki Itoh's Japanese style of techno is purely unique, underground and nothing that had been heard before in Europe. 
In a couple of years, he became recognized as the most underground and expected japanese Techno DJ.
Takaaki Itoh has now taken the next step and started his own label Wols, whilst keep playing in great venues wolrdwide.

Temudo es parte de una nueva generación de artistas cuyo trabajo se basa en el enfoque contemporáneo del Techno. Es una de las mentes detrás de Hayes y dirige su propio estudio de masterización: Tema Mastering. El portugués João Rodrigues comenzó su alias Temudo en 2014, después de un período en la escena Drum and Bass. João se describe a sí mismo como un nerd del procesamiento de audio, las técnicas de composición y la resolución de acertijos en la búsqueda de la mezcla perfecta. Su formación en Jazz, una Licenciatura en Sonido y una Maestría en Música y Tecnología le dieron las herramientas para los experimentos poco ortodoxos que realiza en el estudio. Es justo decir que Temudo es uno de los principales personajes del Techno portugués.

Temudo and Cravo are known for their intense and powerful techno sound that combines influences from classic and contemporary techno. As members of the Hayes Collective, they are part of a Portuguese collective of techno artists that also includes artists like VIL and Nørbak. The collective aims to promote techno culture in Portugal and abroad through events, releases, and collaborations. In addition to Hayes, both have released on Klockworks, while Temudo's music also bears the seal of Blueprint or Warm Up and Cravo released on SK11 or Be As One.

Kr!z joins for DifferentSound Podcast #211.

Kr!z has been at the forefront of techno for more than a decade. Influenced by the hypnotic and energetic sound helmed by veterans such as Jeff Mills, Steve Rachmad and James Ruskin, he gradually but steadily developed his own identity in the international techno scene. 

After making a name for himself as a skilled DJ with sharp focus and a quick mixing style in home country Belgium and the Netherlands, Kr!z launched Token Records in 2007. It has since been a leading outlet for heady, purist sounds. He rapidly established the label as a fixed value with a timeless and powerful sound and took it around the world with label nights on every continent. Token remains important in defining techno today - always straightforward, sometimes weird, often catchy – all under the helm of Kr!z as avid A&R.

After 12 years spent assiduously focused on curating the Token discography, showcasing artists he has nurtured and supported over this time, and incorporating the connoisseur’s knowledge and experience he has cultivated in his work as a DJ, 2019 saw the release of his long awaited debut EP on Token. ‘Mantra’ received high acclaim by both media and the scene's key DJ’s. This continued in 2020, when he released the track ‘Scorpion’s Tail’ on Voltage Imprint and ‘Malice’ & ‘Imperative Needs’ as part of a split EP with Pfirter on his MindTrip label. 2022 was his most prolific year to date with three full EPs seeing the light of day: ‘Neutrino EP’ on James Ruskin’s Blueprint Records, ‘The Tunnel’ on Setaoc Mass’ hotshot SK_eleven and ‘Atlantis’ on his own Token Records. In 2023 he released ‘Revelation’, his follow up on Blueprint.

As a DJ, Kr!z takes listeners on journey’s surpassing space and time. Led by deeply hypnotic grooves, syncopated rhythms and widely reverberating atmospheres, his desire to guide the dancefloor into unknown depths can be felt with every note. Intensities build up and collapse under his skillful hands, knowing what each knob twist will result in. Each set feels almost like a mathematical calculation, deciphering the code of collective ecstasy.
