Brighton is one of the most exciting hotspots for new artists in the UK. There are a few reasons why this small city is so influential. Other than it's liberal and bohemian reputation, the city itself has more music venues than cities twice its size, it's home to the Great Escape festival - the largest indoor festival in Europe. Another large factor in its success is the specialist music college BIMM which keeps a steady supply of young artists flocking to Brighton each year to sample the bohemian delights on offer.

We asked our very good friends at Brighton Noise to put together a playlist of their favourite Brighton artists so we could get an insiders perspective on the scene. BN, for those who aren't familiar, are a collective of writers, photographers, promoters, gig-goers, web wizards and musicians who volunteer their time for free through a common love of the Brighton music scene. 

"We believe our local bands and venues are pretty darn special, and our goal is to get as many people out there going to gigs as possible" says Matt from BN.  "Most of these Brighton bands play the city regularly, so take a listen, then track them down and see them live!"

 Abi Wade is a musician based in Brighton, UK. A Musical collaboration between limbs, strings and vocal chords. Her music is seemingly and seamlessly sewn together, each beat, melody and bass line put exactly in its place, to create songs that pull the heart strings and a performance that will beguile and intrigue.

So far she has toured the UK & Europe with Patrick Wolf, played festivals such as End of The Road, The Great Escape and Wilderness, sold out her debut EP, released music on the label set up by Esben & The Witch’s Daniel Copeman, with whom she also records with and played shows with the likes of CocoRosie, Dan Mangan, Other Lives & Deptford Goth. Her music has also been used on MTV series ‘Awkward’ and Cinemax series ‘Banshee’.

Less than 6 months after The Casket Girls debut album Sleepwalking comes a brand new, 5 song self-titled mini-LP.  The songs pick up where they left off on Sleepwalking but there's a sense of urgency that was not there previously.  Perhaps a nod to the songs that will be on their second full length album coming at the end of 2013.  The Casket Girls on record are Ryan Graveface (music), Phaedra & Elsa Greene (voice) and TW Walsh (drums).

With their two albums to date, Bay Area six-piece Whirr have developed a reputation for dirgeful shoegaze, buttressed with textured layers or guitar and weighty, driving compositions. Spacious and moody, their 2012 LP Pipe Dream drew comparisons to heavyweights of the genre My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Slowdive.

Now, Whirr returns with Around, a mini-LP that finds the group restrained, but no less dark. Here, they explore longer songs, with their shortest clocking in at just under six minutes. Catchy melodies, traditionally a part of the band’s wheelhouse, give way here to a droning ambience, shifting Whirr slightly from their shoegaze core toward  a dour post-rock sound. Vocalists Kristina Esfandiari and Loren Rivera keep their contributions misty and abstract, serving here as additional instruments more than messengers. But the thunderous drums and lavish guitar work remain — albeit in a colder, glassier form — making Around both a departure and a logical step forward from Whirr’s previous work.

LP: Record Club members receive black inside milky clear color in color vinyl. All RC copies hand-numbered. First retail pressing is heavy black splatter on milky clear vinyl (limited to 1350). Mail-order only variant is 180gram black vinyl (limited to 350 copies). LP jacket has swirl die cut. Full color thick inner sleeve. 
CD: The CD is packaged in an uncoated recycled sleeve. 
Cassette: The cassette comes with a full color j-card. 500 copies.
