Bonus Beats

Since its launch in 1976, the CS-80 is still considered one the fattest sounding analog synths on the planet. With its 8-voice polyphony (with two independent synthesizer layers per voice), split functionality, patch memory storage and polyphonic aftertouch it was a real powerhouse (but also weighed like one).

In addition to playing a pivotal role in Vangelis's classic soundtrack for Bladerunner it has been used by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Jean Michel Jarre, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Brian Eno and Toto.

CS-80 Demo

This nod to the Greek sun god features watery percussion (courtesy of the Nord Drum and some custom programming) as well as audio samples of Solar phenomenon.

It was composed on the iPad (in NanoStudio) and realized in Ableton Live 8.

Clavia Nord Electro 4d-emo

(Controlled) chaos reigns supreme in this piece, which started life as a pattern in Stochastik Drum Machine (iOS). Moving to Ableton, further elements of randomness were added, with several chaotic patches from Reaktor as well as a "stable",  repeating figure courtesy of AAS's Chromaphone.  Processed rhythmic cameos from the Nord Drum and Ableton Live 8 serve as variations on the original drum pattern.

Celemony's Melodyne was indispensable in this track to remove background sound from one of the speech samples (see related post here: http://danielottinimusic.tumblr.com/post/34171893488/melodyning), as well as extracting a MIDI groove from Stochastik (which is currently audio only), and creating rhythmic variations on the Stochastik audio. 

The result has a rhythmic, dubby, subterranean feel - enhanced (perhaps blatantly!) with judicious use of delay and reverberation.

What was it that the Joker said in "The Dark Knight" - Introduce a little anarchy...  :-)
