Few DJs could adequately represent the last three decades of New York nightclub history as well as Justin Strauss.

He's been spinning since he was 17 and has visited the booth of nearly every dance club in New York and around the world, pioneering his own distinctive sound, and becoming one of the most sought-after remixers and producers. He has worked with artists such as Depeche Mode, Hot Chip, Sergio Mendez, Tina Turner, Jimmy Cliff, B-52s, Luther Vandross, 808 State, Malcolm McClaren, Skinny Puppy, Goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem to name a few and on over 200 records.

As half of the production duos, Whatever/Whatever and A/JUS/TED, he continued to produce and mix records, working on remixes for the likes of Hot Chip, William Onyeabor, LCD Soundsystem, Blood Orange, Holy Ghost!, Franz Ferdinand, Beyonce and working on new projects like 'Extra Credit' with Joe Goddard of Hot Chip & Marcus Marr, and with Max Pask under their Each Other moniker, whose debut E.P. was mixed by Soulwax and released this year on their Deewee label.

Partners in crime against daylight, @tushen_rai, and @corneliusdoctor, spin the globe and throw darts at it, picking destinations to LAYER in their new mix for the WPD series. Remembering them by their 2018 collab on ""Lights of Khonvoum"" EP, Tom Tom Disco material, and notorious sets in Europe's Rex Club or Zur wilden Renate, @hardfist founders dig all the way to the center of the world, where gigantic plants and long-forgotten animals dwell and cross their flutes to charm the beasts. Next up is blood brother Niv Arzi aka Nic Arizona, half of Tel Aviv duo Red Axes, alongside Dori. Garzen Records is the Axes label, serving family matters, mental gatherings and psych tunes. In 2014 I invited the Axes for Festen in Brussels, we bonded immediately. Later I contributed to the Garzen Jukebox series and now Niv finally drops his mix for NJ. Life goes in circles…

A true desperado, family man, beach goth, fiend and friend, always struggling the good struggle, somewhere between hope and despair. Niv won't stop to give light to whatever is important to him. He thinks it's a very hard job being a human being and it's his own responsibility to work on himself and not bullshit all over. NOSE JOB 34 — NIC ARIZONA

Vienna-based https://soundcloud.com/misonica loves to watch the moon. She's addicted to Italian coffee since the age of six, when her mum made her caffè latte with extra sugar. She traveled the seven continents, only skydiving on her first trip. She's a strong selector sweeping through time and space and pointing towards the future. She played around Europe, and released tunes on Therapy Flowers and Diapason/Sameheads. She was part of Femdex, highlighting female identifying DJs and producers, and had a monthly residency 'Imbroglio' on Noods Radio (Bristol). At the moment she's dreaming very intensely and quite often wakes up crying, but still she loves to sleep.

She starts the mix moody, then gets more sensual and delicate. Halfway she raises the pace and intensity, then ends with the scent of magnolia.

« This musical trip was recorded at MANTA in Lisbon, where I am currently doing a residency. The days are longer and brighter than in my hometown Vienna. The light in this city is unlike at home, it feels and affects me differently. This mix reflects all the emotions and sensations towards the unknown, ease and curiosity towards the peculiarities of a new environment. Light moments threaded into dark and strong ones. »

Nowadays she's in Cologne, a molecular biologist and works in research, trying to tackle down secrets of mitochondria, or the main factories of energy in our bodies. While working in the lab, she listens to lots of music, focused and entranced. She started collecting in 1989, but only plays in public since 2019. Aside she's also a photographer, hoarding cameras from the 80s or older, and mostly interested in capturing timeless moments. Whenever she wakes up, she needs 2 hours on her own. And she's a real proper coffee freak, bad one gets her all itchy and scratchy.

After a crazy intro, the mix takes off and swallows you up, before spitting you out. A deliciously dubby and intergalactic concoction, a fearlessly atmospheric blend, groovy, delay-laden, quirky, stargazing. Eyes wide shut.....

NOSE JOB 36 — MARIJANA CROON

https://soundcloud.com/philipp-otterbach was one of the first resident at Salon des Amateurs, before moving to Berlin. Together with Vladimir Ivkovic, they organized the Substance parties. Since 2014 he released music on labels like Grokenberger, Knekelhuis, Themes For Great Cities, brokntoys, and remixed quite a few peeps. In 2020 he dropped his debut album 'Everything Else Matters' on R.i.O. Nowadays he divides his time between being a creative director for Ui / UX Design and producing music, and still enjoys to travel around with old records to play in front of a young crowd.

He just finished exercise 5/10 from his book: back to social life. 5 more to go. The mix is also kind of reappraisal, because he was forced to listen to a goa version of AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' on a festival lately. Anyhow, this one's a special treat. Taking off gently, one gets quickly sucked in and seduced by all kinds of obscure and exquisite, wicked and wacko tunes, making you drift beyond your own consciousness. The mix combines the animals of his daily life in Kreuzberg. It sure gets hotter with this otter…..

Since learning the ropes in Glasgow’s underground with early releases on Optimo Music and a residency at the famous Art School club, Thomas Lea Clarke aka https://soundcloud.com/mrtcmusic has spent the past 10 years delving into the recesses of experimental electronic club music with his own productions, playing live shows, doing some remixes, mixing and meeting a lot of people along the way. We first met in 2016 both spinning at a Blue Cheese party. These days he works at a radio station and tends to https://soundcloud.com/phasegroup, the label he started with Lo Kindre.

His hobbies are spending time on his own recording sounds, or to be with close ones, eating something good, having a drink and sharing a moment. He runs to keep fit and likes spending time in nature whenever he can. He's easily distracted, not sure if that’s a bad thing though - if he's good at working on multiple things at once, or bad at focusing on one thing at a time.

His mix meanders through some kind of dreamspace with ghostly appearances. He's in no hurry but quickly grabs you by the throat. 'Wherever you may go in life… just don't stop the dance'

There, he began a mix series of pitched down cinematic journeys called 'Safari', often constructed in many sonic layers. His only phobia is of spiders above a certain size, which will def occur in this mix at some point. Furthermore, it's again a fierce collage concept. » This sonic landscape is a musical odyssey into a distant realm and its hidden memories — a tribute to nature's relentless brutality as well as its beauty, to an everlasting cycle of of extreme conditions that shape an unforgiving landscape. Imagine gnarled, sun-bleached trees shrouded in mist while countless creatures crawl beneath their twisted roots, and with every overturned leaf, a new microcosm emerges, revealing the intricate beauty amidst the savagery. It becomes difficult to tell whether the sky or the abyss lies above or below. 

What you hear is a collage of ethereal voices and sounds, fusing echoes of the past with whispers of the future. It is also a metaphor for an inner journey. Whether it’s chugging cold wave, slow-mo electro or warped neo-trance, the music Manfredas writes and spins maintains a wild off-kilter charm that makes him one of the most exciting DJ/producers on the planet right now.

After playing on the radio circuit in Lithuania since he was just 13 years old, his name was launched to the world through the release of 'Pink Industry' on Ivan Smagghe and Leon Oakey's prolific Les Disques De La Mort imprint in 2016. The EP introduced his unique brand of freaky psychedelia that borrows the best of new wave, leftfield disco, synth-pop, krautrock and more and molds them into motorik dancefloor gold.

With a collection of artists from his home city of Vilnius, Manfredas also runs the Smala parties at Opium Club, which celebrates its fifth birthday at the Garzen Festival at the end of January with Red Axes, Abrão (live), local heroes 12 Inčų Po Žeme and more. The club - cited by numerous discerning selectors as one of their favorite places to play on the planet - is also where Manfredas spins many of his famed marathon sets, which have led to him being referred to as the 'people's champion' in his home town.
