Jan Goertz's creative work is largely driven by the desire to test and redefine his limits in competition with technology. This is one of the reasons why he is known for his 4-deck mixes containing a multitude of tracks and loops. First two and then three players simply became too easy. The motivation to DJ, however, also comes from the calmness that is triggered in his otherwise very bustling head during the process. And of course the fun!
His goal in djing is the creation of an "endless groove" which is diving through different atmospheres and subgenres of techno. By breaking up track structures, Jan wants to form a mix as a "unity from its individual parts, instead of just stringing songs together."
Primarily, Jan draws inspiration from the club context - both as a guest and as an artist. For him, techno is first and foremost "functional and works for and in a club. That's what this music is made for."
Nevertheless the layering wizard also tries to combine smooth vibes with strong grooves for his podcasts and the pleasure of listening techno outside of a club. Enjoy the ride!
