2020 saw the launch of Cairo-based label RAKETE alongside its first VA ‘Cairo Quest’, followed shortly by a well-received EP ‘Hope Amidst Despair’ in December. Now, RAKETE’s third release, ‘Ready For Nothing’ arrives by way of newcomer Postdrone, who draws upon the inherent dissonant noise of Cairene existence, and the suppression of left-field works in the face of a deeply commercialized musical landscape.

Postdrone’s debut presents a genre-less, intuition-driven exploration of electronic musical composition, soundtracking moments of personal connection through introspective rhythms and spacious fields, alongside two remixes by label-mate Hassan Abou Alam, who brings a warm club-focused dive into Postdrone’s original works.

A well overdue addition to the NHS realm comes in the form of Australian club aficionado Recluse with an interstellar 5-tracker titled ‘Golden Wings’. Early works from Ryan are heavily inspired by American-themed club aesthetics, calling for Jersey Club, Baltimore and Ballroom rhythmic structure and sonics, and his debut on NHS presents the same deep-seated quality, yet jettisoned into the cosmos, as Recluse states he found himself ‘Building on fanciful worlds and settings, in which I am the one orchestrating the soundtrack for these landscapes. The Golden Wings EP is no stranger to this methodology, this time calling upon the outer worlds, sci-fi entrenched tracks with a glimpse of the galaxies above.’

Ryan concludes – ‘Golden Wings' is a club-ready assortment of tracks that glide through the galaxies I've come to know through futuristic fantasies. An ode to the many adventures and escapades that have transpired there; and are to transpire there. A shining demonstration of how these themes have shaped the themes found within my productions.

Following the devastating explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4, Ma3azef teamed up with New York-based mastering engineer Heba Kadry to curate a compilation by regional and international musicians to raise funds for the continuous relief work being done on the ground in Beirut to help those who have been failed by the Lebanese state.

Today, we're happy to announce two additional remixes to be added to the compilation: ZULI's Kiwii, remixed by El Kontessa; Deena Abdelwahed's Wein El Malayeen, remixed  by Ancient Methods.

The 19-track compilation includes contributions by the likes of Fatima Al Qadiri, Nicolás Jaar, ZULI, Slikback, and others. Bringing sounds together from the different crevices of electronic music, it is a humble attempt to galvanize musicians and listeners into supporting a city that has been integral in shaping the region’s contemporary music scene.

All proceeds from the sales of the compilation are going to local initiatives to provide assistance to those affected, they will be divided between Fundraising Campaign for the Arts and Culture Community in Beirut organized by AFAC; Beirut Musicians' Fund organized by Tunefork Studios, and Beit el Baraka.
