@lea-lisa has been in an around the house scene since the 90's and is widely recognised for her DJing talents which pre Covid regularly saw her travel across the globe to light up some of the finest clubs the scene has to offer. Lea is also an accomplished producer releasing on Wolf Music, Phonica / Karakul, Mona Musique & Inner Balance Recordings with strong DJ support from the likes of Kerri Chandler, Jovonn, Dj Grégory, Rainer Trueby, S3A and Laurent Garnier.

With a brand new EP landing via Phonica sub label @karakulrecords, we asked Lea to put together a mix for us which you can check above, it's a classy selection of music from across the house universe from deep to soulful.

Elado’s @eladomusica lifelong love affair with music has long earned him a reputation as a driving force within his home city scene in Tel Aviv. Avidly collecting records for three decades and DJing for the best part of two, in 2020 he stormed the edit world as his kaleidoscopic palette were heard for the first time through productions on globally-renowned, prominent labels, including Brooklyn-based label Razor-N-Tape.

Catching the music bug from an early age, he took influence from his father who was also a wax enthusiast and had amassed a huge collection of disco records. Elado’s earliest memory of his love for music is vivid, as he recalls his father gifting him a recorded cassette which he rinsed to the point of it meeting a premature end, and he reacted hysterically until his father agreed to make another. By his early teens he’d begun feeding this need to curate and connect tracks by putting together his own mixtapes, and he’d quickly progress to DJing at his father’s parties, soon realising that this could be a vocation.

A trip to Amsterdam in the nineties further set the wheels in motion. Across the next twenty odd years Elado would become a master manipulator in turntablism and a much-touted tastemaker, fully immersing himself in Tel Aviv’s vibrant nightlife, including a residency at hallowed haunt The Block. Armed with a custom-built rotary mixer from Condesa Electronics, he utilises his musical instincts with rich DJ sets that see him seamlessly weave through breakbeat, electro, disco, house & lost grooves from all over the globe.
In recent years his colourful worlds in sound have reached Europe, with revered Canadian icon Eddie C booking him for his Berlin debut. Gigs at Berlin’s ://about blank, Salon Zur Wilden Renate and Bohnengold followed, and beyond the German capital, he has graced the decks in Switzerland and Croatia.

For many years Elado has been an ardent edit enthusiast. He fervidly digs for wax in parallel corners of Europe and South America for the purpose of sourcing obscure, vintage cuts to chop and edit. Until 2020, giving tracks a rerub was a private pursuit with none being released, but as with many artists, the pandemic afforded him time to hone his craft. His genre-melding, globe-trotting debut productions on Eddie C’s Red Motorbike and revered New York imprint Razor-N-Tape put him on the map as a rising star of the edits, with him clocking peer support from Antal, Jacques Renault and Folamore, among more. From downtempo folk to peak time disco and banging acid, the productions are carefully crafted with the intention of amplifying club nights from beginning to end as he is intent on reaching a point where his whole set is exclusively his material, and he’s already halfway there.

A busy release schedule for 2021 brings his set ambitions closer to completion. His distinctive editor’s touch will be heard via Swedish label G.A.M.M, Brazilian outpost Barefoot Beats, Portugal imprint Bonfido Disques, Glasgow-based Secret Squirrel, and an anticipated reappearance on Razor-N-Tape.

Danijel Kevic - Promo Mix August 2021

Louise Chen has been cutting her teeth as a DJ and promoter since the start of the 10s and has steadily been building her reputation as a keen record digger and club DJ with impeccable timing.

The Taiwanese-French artist uses her radio shows on NTS, The Lot and Rinse France to showcase the breadth of her taste, deploying a 'soul tearjerkers' special here and a 100 per cent gospel set there, as well as inviting guests like Mafalda and The Patchouli Brothers.

As she showed us last year, she brings only the finest-quality heat to the club with sets that invigorate dancefloors and radiate pure energy. The same goes for her tracks, as her burgeoning production career testifies.

Given that she's one of the most ingenious young DJs in the game, we called her up to contribute to Downtime and she's fulfilled the brief perfectly by...

so, this is my essential mix. i want to say a few things about it!

before writing "worlds", i'd been feeling kinda pessimistic about the future of electronic music. so once i was done writing "worlds" over the course of 2~ish years, i just felt the need to find new stuff that i loved. i did a ton of soundcloud digging, basically, and most of the music in this mix was music i found that way. that's not to say that there aren't classics or songs i've known for a while here, but it's mostly new music.

then BBC radio 1 asked me to do an essential mix, and it seemed like the perfect way to showcase new stuff i was into.

i also feel like it's important to point out that this mix isn't what the worlds tour is going to sound like, really - that tour is going to be only my own music. all originals. (also it's going to be a blast and a visual journey and other stuff i can't talk about yet ehehe).

Residing in the Netherlands, Jonathan Tan AKA Wantigga, has been making beats in his hometown Deventer since he was a boy. Growing up in a churchgoing household, he was raised with lots of gospel, soul and jazz music. As an autodidact, he taught himself to play several instruments, but his interest turned quickly to electronic music and hiphop.

Algunos talentos musicales electrónicos conocidos han comenzado su carrera como percusionísta. Y así lo hizo Yaya, pero su historia es diferente a todos los demás. Yassin Ligali, también conocido como Yaya, se crió en Turín, Italia donde desde una temprana edad el ritmo era su elemento vital. Su padre era el vocalista y percusionista de M’Bamina, grupo formado por músicos procedentes de Benín, Zaire, Italia y Camerún el cual editó ocho álbumes y colaboró con artistas como Manu Dibango y Salif Keita, fueron patrocinados por Paco Rabanne, tocó por todo el país, incluyendo espectáculos para los presidentes de Senegal o Francia y su último concierto fue junto a James Brown en París en 1985, el año en el que Yaya nació. Bien introducido en el legado de su padre, Yaya creció tocando la batería y djembe, y a la edad de 15 años, comenzó a actuar como percusionista en clubes de Turín. Justo un año después, ya ejercía de Dj, pinchando funk, soul, afrobeat, house y garage. Manu Dibango y Fela Kuti tenían su lugar en su maleta junto a discos de Masters At Work y Dimitri From Paris, contrastes en el ritmo y estructura que impregnaron su música hasta hoy día. De pinchar en Turín en discotecas como Pier y Doctor Sax, comenzó a ser invitado en clubs de Milan como Amnesia, Light Lime y Pulp o en el famoso Tenax de Florencia. Muy pronto fue cabeza de cartel en clubs de toda Europa como Fellini y City Hall de Barcelona o Seven en Croacia. Notablemente actuó en Space Ibiza en la fiesta de los martes noche de Carl Cox junto a Angels Of Love. No hay duda que algo en el ambiente ibicenco hace que se adapte a Yaya a la perfección.
