Ihre Männchen zählen zu den schwersten flugfähigen Vögeln der Welt. Die Balz ist ein wahres Schauspiel: Der Hahn kehrt seine Flügel und Schwanzfedern um, krümmt den Hals ein und bläht den Kehlsack auf. Von weitem wirkt der Vogel plötzlich wie verwandelt, wie ein großer Federball. Seine Herzschlagrate steigt bei der Balz bis auf 900 Schläge pro Minute an.

Today we spotlight Dersu Rhodes, one half of the DJ duo @peaceinnoise and Design Director of @Vice in Los Angeles. He crafts for us a mystical trip blending psychedelic melodies, hypnotic percussions and ethereal soundscapes. 

We asked Dersu what were his influences and musical inspirations:
"During my last trip to Berlin, I was drawn to deeper more minimal percussions and when I combined them with the light playfulness of South American beats, I arrived at a sound that felt heavy yet hopeful. The cinematic melodies by composers such as Nils Frahm and the late Johan Jonasson are incredibly moving as well, and I love to look for areas in a set where they can help build emotion. 

This set builds slowly and hopefully will take you on a journey from Asia, with producers from Japan such as Takasi Himeoki then across the plains of Africa through tracks like Elephant. I truly hope you enjoy your travels."

Dersu develops other projects as the Creative Director of the style/music online magazine @Witness-This and the monthly non-profit party NightCause.

Auf unserer wohlbekannten Insel ereignen sich immer mehr mysteriöse Dinge. Verliert der Hauptdarsteller einfach nur die Nerven oder ist dieses Land mitten im Ozean wirklich verflucht? Wie steht es mit den gefundenen Aufzeichnungen? Geben sie Aufschluss über die sonderbaren Vorgänge? Erfahrt im neuesten Teil mehr über all diese Fragen. Musikalisch untermalt wird der mentale Zustand des Protagonisten und die Geschehnisse auf der Insel von Pascal Pur. Der Hannoveraner ist bekannt durch seine sphärisch deepen Produktionen die er unter anderen auf PUZL Records oder Dunkelheit veröffentlichte. Genießt diese Reise zu den  Abgründen der Insel!

Als der nächste von mir in den Atlantik geworfene Stein die Wasseroberfläche unregelmäßig zerteilte und auf den sandigen Grund sank, auf den schon Abermillionen Steine vor ihm niedergesunken waren und dort von unzähligen Wellen zu dem feinen Sand zwischen meinen Fingerspitzen gemahlen worden waren, gestand ich mir ein, dass ich ganz genau wusste, was die beiden Körperchen in ihren Händen hielten. Das Leuchten und Blitzen wurde von nichts anderem als einem ungewöhnlich großen Fotoapparat ausgelöst. Eine altertümlicher Blitzvorrichtung schien auf dem Gerät zu stecken. Und es soll mich der Teufel holen, dachte ich. Die beiden Geschöpfe hatten nichts anderes fotografiert als mich.

Ich schlug das Büchlein auf, um ein wenig in Quintus‘ Aufzeichnungen weiterzulesen. Ich hatte es mir hier herunter zum Strand mitgebracht, ging nirgends mehr ohne es hin. Ich streifte den Sand von meinen Fingern an meiner Hose ab und blätterte weiter. Die Schrift auf den nun folgenden Seiten war undeutlich und wirr, die Zeilen liefen ineinander oder voneinander fort und die Buchstaben wurden an manchen Stellen auffällig groß. Dann wieder klein.

"Whether old crackling vinyls or unpublished new discoveries- the main thing is happening, music gets under your skin. And sometimes, when a song makes you shudder with beauty and you close your eyes, you can see it, the supernova: the brief, bright flash of a star in all the colors of the universe".

The Olmec were the first great Mesoamerican civilization. The city of San Lorenzo (its original name has been lost to time) flourished around 1200-900 B.C. and was the first major city in ancient Mexico. 

The Olmecs were great traders, warriors and artists, and they developed writing systems and calendars which were perfected by later cultures. Other Mesoamerican cultures, such as the Aztecs and Maya, borrowed heavily from the Olmecs. 

Because the Olmec society went into decline two thousand years before the first Europeans arrived in the region, much of their culture has been lost. Nevertheless, diligent anthropologists and archaeologists continue to make great strides in understanding this lost culture.
