These last few months, I've spent a fair amount of time musing over my own artistic identity and my place within the bigger space. 

What does it meant to be a "deep house DJ"..."progressive DJ"..."tech-house DJ"..."Burner DJ" [cringe]...and so on?
Does it even matter? Artistically, no, not in the slightest.

But practically, I've come to believe that it does, evidenced by the constrained expectations and sometimes bemusement of promoters who book me.

Unfortunately, being perceived and labeled on a singular dimension isn't such a great thing.
But the good news is that the solution is to just keep doing what I love to do: releasing mixes that weave in and out of moods and feelings, taking you to a destination hopefully different than where you started.

Unsere heutige Nummer 117 kommt ganz fresh vom Rocko Garoni ums Eck.

Das Multitalent Rocko ist nicht nur DJ sondern auch Veranstalter und Produzent. Und genau diese Mischung zeichnet seinen Sound aus. In Windeseile einen illegalen Rave aufzubauen, diesen dann mit seinem Set zu zerlegen und am Schluss noch den Morgen anzubeten. Er kann den Kopf in die steife Brise halten, weil er weiß, dass Feiern immer etwas Politisches ist, weil Freiräume nicht zuletzt auch gefühlt werden. Und Rocko kann mit seiner Musik auch Räume erfüllen.

Wenn man Rocko frägt wie er seinen Sound beschreiben würde, bekommt man eine äußerst lustige Beschreibung. 
„Ich mach Trainingsjackenmusik mit breiten Bässen. Das heißt: volle Direktheit, bei totaler Freundlichkeit. Brandungsmusik im Zeitraffer, bei der manchmal auch die Sonne aufgehen darf. Techno mit weichen, ausgeleierten Bündchen am Handgelenk, modern-retro eben.“

Für unsere Reihe hat er einen wunderbar verspielten Mix zusammengestellt mit einem wunderbaren Schlusstrack … einen Kalipo-Remix eines Joy Devision Klassiker. Rocko vielen Dank für diese umwerfende Stunde. Und nun die Trainings-Jacke angezogen und die Kopfhörer auf.

Bio:
Polish born Dj currently residing in San Francisco. Being born and raised in Eastern Europe in a family of musicians it would only take a little time for Ivana to develop a passion for electronic music. Since the early years she was already into a range of different house and techno music styles, often attending festivals in and around Poland. But her real development as an artist and a dj has started after she decided to move to San Francisco, a city of artists and countless possibilities. By starting to spin in her own basement, Ivana quickly picked up this new underground style called "deep tech" that features dark, minimal and groovy patterns with fat basslines that noone can resist. She quickly developed an ear for this style of sound and it didn't take long for her to start a serious dj career in San Francisco, playing across many underground clubs and parties. Soon after she joined Distrikt camp crew at Burning Man known for their biggest day parties at the festival. 
In 2016 Ivana has opened a party series called "EastBlock" that takes place monthly at a local club "Monarch", featuring local and international talents and on top, she has become a resident for the one of the best San Francisco's underground music labels P.U.N.C.H.I.S. Records that represents exactly the same style she brings to the dancefloor.

Es gibt moderne urbane Mythen, welche die Zeit überdauern und als unausgesprochene Wahrheiten gelten. Nirgends niedergeschrieben werden sie von Mund zu Ohr weitergegeben und existieren nur in den Köpfen der Menschen. Sie halten sich hartnäckig und gehören zur jeweiligen Kultur dazu.
Ein solch urbaner Mythos aus den 90ern ist zum Beispiel das Wunderheilmittel vieler Konsolen Fans „das Pusten“. Hat ein Gameboy-Spiel nicht funktioniert, einfach das Spiel wieder rausziehen, kurz über die Kontakte pusten und schon war die Welt wieder in Ordnung. Dabei würde es schon reichen, das Spiel einfach nochmal in die Konsole zu stecken. Das Pusten bewirkt auf lange Sicht eher das Gegenteil und zerstört das Spiel sogar. Die Legende lebt jedoch immer noch.
Auch in der Electro-Szene gibt es solche Geschichten, die die Fantasie der Menschen beflügelt. So gelten die Partys der späten 70er im Warehouse Chicago als die Mutter aller House Partys. Animalische Szenen solch sich dort abgespielt haben, während Frankie Knuckles seine Marathon-Sets auf die Menge niederprasseln ließ. Pure Ekstase durchzuckte die Körper der Anwesenden und die Menge bestand nicht mehr aus Individuen, sondern war ein großes energiegefülltes Wesen, welches ein unkontrollierbares Eigeneleben entwickelt hatte. Es entstand eine Bewegung, der jeder angehören konnte und die in späteren Tracks als „Jack“ bezeichnet wurde. Die urbane Legende von Jack wird auch heute immer wieder in Tracks und Mixtapes verwendet. Natürlich ist das nur eine von vielen Mythen die sich in der elektronischen Tanzmusik entwickelt haben. 
Vielleicht schaffen wir es mit der deep story von Aio eine neue urbane Legende zu begründen, die die Menschen wieder zusammenführt und in Ekstase verschmelzen lässt. Ein Mixtape das die Fantasie der Menschen beflügelt und über das sich in Zukunft viele Mythen ranken werden.
