An edit pays tribute to the original by trimming and rearranging the song in a way that it works for today's dancefloor or listening habits. 

Delfonic and Mendel are two outspoken specialists in this and understand the edit craft like no one else. For almost twenty years, Delfonic has been running Oye Records, a record store known far beyond the city limits of Berlin, and therefore knows very well which records and tracks go down best with whom and how. 

Always on the look out for that heartfelt connection, Mendel doesn’t cater to the fist pumpers, but rather the loving, open-minded and upbeat. His sets are peppered with diverse influences, from Chicago’s (ware)house pioneers to Amsterdam’s soulful school of DJs. He carefully orchestrates dance floor experiences by selecting tunes based on the emotion they evoke. A steady flow of mixtapes and Mendel’s Melodies, his regular show on Red Light Radio, provide a platform for Mendel to share his mellower side, capturing hearts by interweaving soulful classics with silky rarities from all corners of the musical landscape.

Notes On A Journey has therefore decided to make use of the services of the two DJs and to take two songs from their own, meanwhile extensive catalog under the magnifying glass, respectively the scalpel.

On the one hand there are two new editions of Germannu's «Fale De Mim» and one edit each for «Marcação» and «Pé na Estrada» by Valéria. Four times the very finest in soulful Brazilian pop music as one is now almost used to from Notes On A Journey. 

«Fale De Mim» by Germannu, by the way, originally appeared in 1984 on the EP «Germannu» and was released in September 2020 by NOAJ as a lavish reissue. 

The 4-track 7inch «Pé na Estrada» by Valéria originally came out in 1983 on the Brazilian label PPA (Paladar Produções Artisticas) and was re-released by NOAJ in November 2020.

With «NOAJ Edits 01», a first absolute must-have edits package was put together. And as the title suggests, the series will continue in the following months with more highlights from the NOAJ catalog.

DJ Supermarkt came across this rare private press 7 Inch a long time ago, and since tried to locate the band to include the track on his Too Slow To Disco compilation series. After years he found bandleader Jeff Wollman, who gave TSTD permission to finally rerelease this funky space beauty for the first time on the new compilation TSTD 4.
The story could have ended here, but Jeff and DJ Supermarkt went one step further, and came up with the plan to give the track to a few selected producers for new versions/reworks. We contacted our favorite smooth space approved producers of today, and they all said “Yes” and we are super proud to now give you: The Reworks!

Guy Maxwell (bass), Larry Vann (drums), Jeff Wollman (keys), Kenn Peterson (guitar) and Tom Marken (vocals) gifted us a rather delicious spacey groover that feels as ready for the dance floor as it does the closing credits of a capable rom-com.

Joe Morris, Nick Smith and Iain Mac are Clandestino, a successful trio of party throwers based out of Leeds. They've been around the block a few times and have been involved in their local underground scene for almost two decades. This longstanding venture has garnered them some international attention and even resulted in quite a few international gigs as Clandestino. Their tastes are an amalgam of exotically influenced sounds from around the globe, easily heard on their extremely popular monthly show on KMAH Radio. As is often the case, they've also naturally developed into a record label, curating their own brand of idiosyncratic dance music.

Clandestino's fifth release comes from José Manuel, the Berlin-based Italian known for his percussion-heavy sound and tribal leanings. The "Human Behaviour" EP comes with two originals and two remixes, as well as a digital-only bonus track. The title track is a 9 minute journey that's slower in tempo with atmospheric keys and flutes playing over top of a jagged bassline. Clandestino remix Human Behaviour to turn it into a more uptempo, afro-leaning cut, injecting it with some tropical keys and a bit of an acid-y 303 bass.

Our premiere today is entitled Bangalore. Starting off with an immediate ear-catching, eastern guitar and bass combo, we know we're in for a ride. Trippy vocal chants come in as the drums and afro-latin percussion continue to work up to a full fledged groove. This percussive tune never loses its direction as different elements are introduced and taken out in the arrangement but the combination between the percussion, guitar and especially the quirky vocals turn it into a late night jam.

The final tracks on the EP are the Mushrooms Project remix of Bangalore, which turns it into more of a deep sundown, seaside extravaganza, and the digital bonus, Aisha, a tripped out cut full of djembes, Middle-Eastern and Indian instrumentation.
