Nothing Is Real welcome Dharma for the 008 of the label. 

Born and raised in Sunderland, in the north east of England, Rhys William Buckham Aka Dharma made his debut last year on Man Power’s label Me Me Me and the ‘Warts of the Worlds EP’ is his brand new work for Nothing Is Real. 
His music has an electric mix of nostalgic 90’s techno and contempary Nu Disco. 

With their effective melodic chords and powerful basslines, ‘Warts of the worlds’ and ‘Set Square’ take both inspirations from new wave to synth pop.
The package includes also strong reworks from Marc Piñol and Joris Biesmans
The spanish DJ and producer Marc Piñol follows his amazing productions on Hivern Discs with a trippy atmospheric reinterpretation of the EP title track, while Joris Biesmans, on the heels of his strong releases on Correspondant and Rebirth, goes for a vibrating dancefloor version with an anthemic feel.

Avalon Emerson "Quoi! (Tuff City Kids Clean Shave Mix)"

Richard Davis’ ‘Same Room’, a June release from the Berlin-educated Londoner that rumbled and tech-stepped its way into Pete Tong’s Weekend Hot Mix, makes a reappearance on Slovenia’s Danza Macabra imprint for the tail-end of the summer. Following a sharp label remix on the original three-track package, ‘Same Room Recomposed’ features two follow-up contrasts in the dark arts of deep house and techno, provided by the scheming Avatism and Swayzak.

Thomas Feriero as Avatism casts a stark spectre across the depths between doom-predicting house and powerfully chorded progressive techno, circling his own ‘Adamant’ album from last year. Glints of light scurry as if they’re trying to play tricks on you, and breakdowns cannot fail to put spines on ice. Authoritative string sweeps, whose scrutinising nature is as if Avatism is examining the crowd with a magnifying glass, are in direct competition with sprawling jet-powered basslines skulking below the dancefloor’s surface. Fully understanding the ideology of epic, it’s a thrill ride never found ever letting its guard down, travelling from minimal and primal to escalating and elaborate.

One of techno/tech house’s higher educators is David Brown under the seasoned guise of Swayzak; reunited with Davis after 2013’s ‘Shut Me Down’, the ‘Tordal Smesh’ mix begins as a booming pound of house shadowing the earth’s core. After descrambling signals moving in reverse while vocal strains apply hot breath to your ears - the pump of the drum unwavering to what is an enigmatic thought process - Swayzak’s decision to take his time turns Davis’ original into a game of cat and mouse. Just when you think it’s all gone quiet and the track is being put to bed, it dramatically kicks back into life as the bottom end reactivates and puts game faces back in play.

A kite is a tethered heavier-than-air craft with wing surfaces that react against the air to create lift and drag. A kite consists of wings, tethers and anchors. Kites often have a bridle and tail to guide the face of the kite so the wind can lift it. Kites is also the title of the premiere by Zurich Dada.
The track takes us back to the darkest depths of the retro future from Zurich Dada a Portuguese Synth Pop duo who take inspiration from quantum physics and the multiverse theory as much as they do from Depeche Mode or the Human League the track itself reinvented reworked and reconfigured by Anbau, the Catalan stalwart of Aspecto Humano.
In a kicking rewiring with a gorgeous vocal performance, tough drums, melodic analogue synths in a digital age. This is going to fly.

Occasionally the stars align to create something truly special. Well, without beating around the bush, that’s what we’ve got for you here. Not only a classic Legowelt hymn that’s ripe for a revisit but three quality remixers (Tuff City Kids, Catz 'N Dogz and Younger Rebinds aka Benny Rodrigues) turning in scandalously good remixes for Cocoon Recordings. Yes, we’re spoiling you...but you’re worth it!

Disco Rout first surfaced in 2002. The electro revival that had ushered in the new millennium was in full swing and this was to prove a seminal tune, being voted track of the year by Groove magazine. As if to prove a point the bass line still grabs you the moment it drops, while the laser-guided melodies feel as relevant today as they ever did. Fusing the past with a neon future, Legowelt’s complex interwoven elements fit like a glove and the clarity of the mix makes everything seem effortless. Maybe that‘s why it’s such a fascinating track to revisit, having already been remixed over the years by the likes of Deetron, Johannes Heil and Freeform Five.

Anyway, this current crop of remixes are equally top notch starting with Tuff City Kids who do what they do best, serving up an organic, conga driven workout complete with percolating synthetic percussion, cut up vocals and silky smooth choral pads. Warping and flanging the original riffs into an infectious, state-of-the-art revamp, they stay true to the retro vibe with added emphasis on the vocal hook for a more pronounced breakdown that briefly trips out before regrouping and taking flight once more. 

Following hot on their heels is a screamer from Catz ’N Dogz who drop the tempo slightly, layering a metallic cowbell motif over a tough, robotic disco groove that adds extra swagger to the bass line. The original parts gradually spiral into view, cranking up the pressure till we hit a solid state of euphoria that in turn, disintegrates into freaky alien chatter. There’s no let up though, as squawking synths lock on to the rhythm and everything evolves into a full-on percussive outro.

So far, so fantastic. You would think there’s nowhere left to go after being blasted into outer space a couple of times already but we’re not done yet. Last but not least, Dutch master Benny Rodrigues aka ROD steps up under his Younger Rebinds alias with even more intensity than demonstrated on last year’s ‘Sound of Benny EP’ on Running Back. Picking apart the original with almost forensic attention to detail, he gives new life to each individual strand with an exhilarating mix that seems destined to leave its mark on dance floors around the globe throughout the summer and beyond. The second of his two remixes is included here, both having featured on a much sought after Cocoon Recordings limited edition white label. Remix two compliments the precision of the first with a more freestyle approach that’s in one hell of a rush to get going. The bass line rips through the mix, hihats scurry toward the cavernous, arpeggiated breakdown and we’re drenched in reverb as the synths dovetail dangerously, all the while paying homage to the hi-octane energy of the original. Rodriguez effortlessly toys with the crowd, frying the synapses and gorging on serotonin, as the mix motors relentlessly to its conclusion.

The Disco Rout remix EP is a shameless riot of sound that succeeds in doing something very special - by staying true to Legowelt’s vision, the artists involved not only demonstrate their notable skills as remixers but reaffirm the quality of a classic and timeless piece of music.

Duro ejects into the second part of the year with Berlin-based producer Etcha delivering his sophomore release on the Mexican imprint; an astronomical adventure entitled ‘Confucius Says’. These 2 new exciting original cuts are filled with inter-planetary bleeps and grandiose pads, that along with remixes from Marvin & Guy and Bird Of Paradise make an outstanding pack for the late-night record spinner. Currently at the forefront of a new generation of Berlin producers, Etcha has also appeared on labels such as his own Exoplanets, Voll Schön, and more. 

The trip starts with “Confucius Says”, where a mystical, astral melody synth carries us along with a muffled Italo bass, as if we were traveling across a dense nebulae of sound on board of a retro-futuristic spaceship piloted by small green mysterious creatures on glittering space suits. Bird of Paradise takes this to paranoiac territories: an insistent, rolling bass makes us realise that moment where we have landed in a strange, remote planet, while danger seems just ahead us. 

“Operation Oskar Panizza”, the second original track, prepares us for battle. The snare-propelled-guitars are our weapons against the fatigue derived by a night full of wonders and chuggy basslines. At the end of the expedition, Marvin & Guy brilliantly push us into a new arpeggiated journey, right into the middle of the after-hours galaxy.

Buzzing French talent Madben lands back on Maceo Plex's tastemaking Ellum Audio imprint with his 'Blooming' EP that delivers a taste of rave energy for today's dancefloors. DJ Pierre’s seminal Afro Acid welcomes a host of contemporary talents to remix Joyce Muniz including Oliver Dollar & Stefan Braatz, Alinka, Lauren Flax and Hannah Holland. The original single landed earlier this year and did plenty of damage around the world.

It is the German pairing of Oliver Dollar & Stefan Braatz who go first. The former is a master of sample heavy house with real heart, and often collaborates with Braatz. Here they offer a prickly version with chattery Chicago claps and bouncing drums and bass that will energise any set in style. Chicago native Alinka is next and is known for her weird and idiosyncratic take on house on labels like Crosstown, Classic and her own Twirl. She imbues her music with the spirit and history of the Windy City and here layers in acid flashes and machine gun like lasers that make
for a brilliantly dark and involving groove.

Lauren Flax comes from Detroit by way of Brooklyn and has worked with the likes of Little Boots and Tricky, DJed at Panorama Bar and released her jack tracks on cult labels like Unknown to the Unknown. Here she fantastically builds the pressure with gliding hi hats that get under your skin as the fat bass props up the libidinous and seductive vocals and acid twitches. Last of all, UK sensation Hannah Holland is a queen of bass heavy sounds and brings that to her remix, which is a slick and kinetic track of prickly drums, acid stabs and freaky synth work.

This is a powerful package of fresh and forward looking house music.

After the sold-out first edition of Correcciones, Mexican label Calypso returns with Volume 2 of the series, unveiling four strong contenders for Edit of the Year. Starting things off, Calypso co-label boss Thomass Jackson has his way with a weirdo Polish jazz/fusion/funk track that keeps turning left while continually finding the right direction. 
Russian label regulars Simple Symmetry join forces with co-label boss INigo Vontier to deliver a "monster peak-time mantra" that's as perfect for morning rites as it is for nocturnal adventures. 
On the B-side, New York's Facets slows down the tempo of an old goa gem - the result has already gotten support from the likes of Intergalactic Gary, Alexis Le Tan and many others.
Volume 2 closes out in the hands of Italian dandys Marvin & Guy, who offer a magnificent take on a forgotten disco classic.

Exclusive Lauer ft. Jasnau 'You Know'

Always busy, you know? That's Philipp Lauer's life as an in-demand artist. Whether under his real last name 'Lauer', together with Gerd Janson as Tuff City Kids or with Fabrizio Mammarella under their Black Spuma moniker Philipp Lauer, or the 'Brontosaurus' from the Frankfurt 'Speckgürtel' (German for 'exurbs') probably has more successful projects than other labels have potential artists to release music from. However, regarding the aforementioned not as Permanent Vacation, run by Munich electronic music pioneers Tom Bioly and Benjamin Fröhlich, who supplies a shelter for Philipp's music as he released his 'Borndom LP' as well two and half EPs on the label, 'two and a half' only because the 'Borndom' album was provided with a remix EP. Any way, Lauer now returns with his third proper EP to the label and delivers four original tracks plus an instrumental of 'You Know' and an extended version of the EP's title track 'Know You'. For the inversion of the title track Lauer teams up with Jasnau for 'Know You', as he already did for several tracks that were released on Permanent Vacation or Running Back. Again the result of the collaboration is as outstanding as before, Lauer's inevitable (tuff) disco-ish sound tendency perfectly fits Jasnau's voice and complement each other. The result is a pop-esque track that could do the trick in many DJs' sets as it's a versatile dance floor filler adding a different tone and note to a (club)set.

Lauer's EP 'Know You' will be released on Permanent Vacation on December 6th, 2019.
