I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Felt good to return with another stacked show full of forgotten music that I think you should rediscover or learn of. I have to say that since i've started my show on Rinse, it has been the toughest 4 weeks as far as preparing and performing the show. It's all part of the legacy though. I have never had to dig this hard in my life! I really kept this show smooth and highlighted a lot of neo-soul and melodic tracks. No matter how advanced or "future" the music keeps getting, I can't help but go back to my roots. We are still fighting a never ending battle against the majors which is why we have to dig harder but at the end of it all it will all be alright.

Another week, another amazing podcast. We have not left Italy yet because they keep pushing out good quality techno. Our guest for this episode is as you might think from Italy. This time we are presenting Logotech (@logotech). For this episode you will be hearing a combination of old and new tracks mixed with an edge! We can describe it mildly like this: 

“Rhythm increases tension while it is moving forward unchallenged through syncopated melodies, hypnotic percussions and building grooves”.

In simple words: This will blow your mind and give you amnesia for a minute or two.

Q&A

1. What's the story behind your DJ name "Logotech" ? 

Well the name Logotech cames from a fusion between 2 words: the first is logo that mean tongue/speaking/language in ancient greek. The second word is, obviously, techno! And that's what I am, a guy that speak techno. I've thought about this name when I was 18, then I started to make releases and playing in local parties  so from then until now Logotech became my second, and in many cases my first, name.

2. When was the first time you experienced techno, and how did it feel? 

I've introduced myself in techno world when I was really young. I used to listen an italian techno radio show around 2000 and step by step I get into it. I was very young when I get my first approach with techno but for the first moment I've fallen in love with it and became my purpose. So I started to produce first but for some years I was far from sound I really feel: It was a long journey through a lot of influences and many years of practicing. I've learned everything by myself and I'm really proud about. I am on the way I wished to be and this is great.

3. What are top 3 techno names in the underground scene today? 

Talking about underground today is an hard topic to me. Today this word is overused and it loss the meaning in my opinion. Anyway about artist I respect there is a long list of names that grows day by day. There is a lot of interesting music that's coming out nowadays. Of course I have a lot of respect for my friends and partners in various projects Mark Morris & Future 16, we have all the same passion and love for music and techno and we are friends since we were teens so we grew up together with same goals, dreams and we still share these feelings. Some other names I want to do are again from the south of Italy: The first in my opinion is the man, Raffaele Attanasio. Without any doubts is one of best producers and live performers I ever heard! The last name is 2030 aka Kalean, he is making some of the most beautiful tunes I've listened in this 15 years of techno. His album on CLFT is an all time masterpiece!

4. Productions/mixes coming up?
I'm finishing an EP for Ketra Records. I'm working as Alpha Code on next Zeitgeist Schallplatten (my own project on Bandcamp) and I Have to make a couple of remixes for the next time. About mixes I'll be in 12h no-stop party next 25/10 here in Italy, I'm sure we'll enjoy it!
 
5. Any extra words or emotions you want to spread to the world? 

I'm a kind of lone wolf. I like to share emotions with a lot of people but I prefer to do it while I'm on a consolle and these people are dancing all together!

MNMT 55: Logotech

Drum & bass producers and Viper Recordings signees, The Prototypes, will be making their return journey from the Sussex coast for another appearance in Room One at Playaz on Halloween (or Friday 31st October if you're one of the numerophobic few). With that fact weighing on their mind and an awareness for everything that's happening here over the coming weekend, Chris Garvey and Nick White got together and made us a 30 minute mix to help us celebrate both our 15th milestone and the fact that they're coming back to Farringdon to play alongside Hype, Pascal, Hazard, Mampi Swift, Annix and Potential Badboy at the end of the month.

Holt Blackheath's "Sound Of Change" Mix

Rinse FM Podcast - Butterz - 8th February 2015

Budgie Smuggla was one of the finalists for our DJ competition back in December 2013 for playing alongside Kry Wolf in Leeds. He is now one half of the label management team at In:flux Audio, working on all things Garage and Bassline and also makes up one third of the radio team for our Nasty FM show on Sunday evenings alongside Modec and big boss Tik.

Over the last year, he's also made his way into production territory working alongisde Tik on a regular basis. Tik & Smuggla have been putting out bangers since the inception of the record label - with their tune 'Asthma Riddim' being the first free release on the label last year, 'Scuffa Kid' dropping as part of the 'Dutty Up North EP' back in October and the forthcoming In:flux exclusive 'Sexy Trak' just about to be unleashed on the world.

Even though Budgie Smuggla didn't win that competition back in December 2013 (coming a very close second), he did end up joining us during our brief stint at the Pro Audio Centre and closed at our event headlined by Dr. Cryptic back in February 2014. This mix is a celebration of a year of the Smuggla!
