If you’re into electronic music, chances are, you’re a fan of Kosta Athanassiadis, commonly known as XDB. The veteran DJ and producer has been consistently putting out beautiful music and making dancers move and sway for a long time, with a career in music spanning thirty years. With releases, on Metrolux, his own label, as well as Sistrum Recordings, Dolly, and Echochord, one would be surprised to find out that it wasn’t until 2020 that XDB put out a full-length LP when his genre-defying album “Inspiron” came out on Dial. But taking time to build up and do things properly seems to be Athanassiadis’s M.O., in regards to both releases and DJ sets. And today’s premiered track, a perfect slow-burner for warm-up sets, happens to be no different.

XDB truly goes back to his deep roots in a groovy remix of “GR2", commencing with a hypnotic synth line right at the track’s forefront, eventually taking a step back. Sharp high hats, synth stabs and snare drum rolls work together for the duration of the track to ensure that party attendees will be dancing. 

Athanassiadis’s remix comes as part of the “Dark Path” EP, the first release on the Deep Series (a Diaphan Music sub-label) since 2014. The EP will be out on vinyl on March 2, 2022, and will be released digitally on February 28, 2022.

@caldera-caldera is an artist whose productions have had me in awe for ages. German but living in Brighton, UK, he runs a monthly radioshow on 1BTN. Caldera's sense of rhythms, texture & the overall hypnotic & dubby sides of techno is something I’ve always been super inspired by. His Leafs EP released back in 2020 is a must-listen (bokharirecords.bandcamp.com/album/leafs). Konduku (@kondukukonduku) returns to the Delsin Mantis series with an exciting double pack (Mantis 09 + 10) which dives deeper into his remarkable fractured rhythms and light-touch synthesis. Over the course of nine tracks Ruben Üvez straddles the space between introspective headphone trips and hypnotising dancefloor elegance, operating in a liminal zone of fluid tempos, submerged atmospheres and pointillist beats. It's an open-ended but clear-sighted approach that aligns perfectly with the direction of the Mantis series.

On Mantis 09 Üvez follows a progressive, patient arc of energy from the glassy chimes and pin-prick percussion of 'Özlem' via 'Scale's reduced, atonal echo chamber and the half-time prowl of 'Derinkuyu' to the dense, humid pressure of 'Swerve'. Restraint maintains throughout, even as we take in a broad spectrum of the Konduku sound.

Mantis 10 opens up with the circular electronica of 'Trail', masking the start and end points of the groove with the kind of polymetric construction Üvez has made his name with. The pattern continues through the displaced, dubby experimentation of 'Lust' before the more sharply defined transcendental tone of 'Lavender' cuts through the fog. 'Dalgin' rides its pattering percussion on a minimalist D&B growl, setting the scene for the dislocated, avant-darkside closer 'Helles’.

Konduku makes his first appearance on DJ Nobu's label Bitta, presenting four highly energetic, deep hypnotic cuts. It's the perfect collision between their characteristic practices. Konduku's two immersive techno works, in the form of 'Hayal' and the atmospheric 'Yakamoz', compliment Nobu's powerful and uplifting mountain-valley sound. Balancing out the EP are two proper mind-benders: 'Damla' perfectly represents Konduku's take on twirling half-tempo rhythms and 'Zifir' is a freaky heavy-hitter in the low sub territories.
