Voilà une première que ÖND est particulièrement fier de vous présenter. Une track arrivée de nulle part dans notre boîte mail, ou plus exactement, pas tout à fait nulle part mais de Russie.
Un nom inconnu ZAAX et une musique qui intrigue et séduit immédiatement toute la team ÖND. Des sons captivants, mélanges d'influences conscientes ou inconscientes très variées : de la techno, bien sûr, mais surtout des sons qui plongent dans le passé de la musique électro, du côté des pionniers du genre. On se laisse happer par cette petite musique qui renverra pour certains aux titres de Jacno, pour d'autres à Kraftwerk ou bien aux influences japonaises. On est un peu scotché par l'inventivité de tout cela, et visiblement, on n'est pas les seuls à croire en ZAAX et sa musique puisqu'il a déjà été repéré par New York Haunted, le label de Drvg Cvltvre et que sur Youtube, son précédent album a eu les honneurs de “Body Musick”  le catalogue curated by the Filmmaker.
Alors faites comme nous un pari sur l'avenir de la techno, cet avenir qui vient du froid et des routes défoncées de la Russie, cet avenir qui nous est révélé avec  le LP Syndorociya chez  Diffuse Reality Records et la track que nous avons choisie ici "Coutlessorlds".

Ohms Love is Eivind Johansson Vullum’s debut solo LP. 
It consists of a selection of tracks made over a four-year period. Drawing from his experience in field recording, film music composition and club event curation, Eivind sets forth a seamless collection of melodic and meditative beat-free music that stands out yet fits in the rich history of Norwegian ambient music. The form of Vullum’s electronic compositions reflects his background as a sound designer, which has had a strong influence on the dynamics and the narrative elements in his music. Ohms Love will be released on HMD Records Friday March 4th.

Eivind Johansson Vullum (b.1984) is a Norwegian musician, sound designer and DJ. Vullum has since the early 2000s been active in different bands such as the kraut/psych-pop four-piece Sally Suicide. From there, he ventured into a more electronic direction sonically. He was one half of the hardware techno duo Bloksberg, which made a name for itself with its leftfield techno in clubs both inside and outside Norway. As a DJ and promoter, he presented his concept Klubb Kadabra at the club Blå in Oslo for over three years, focusing on promoting local underground DJs.

Vullum holds a BA in Sound Design from the Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio (NISS) and is currently studying Musicology at the University of Oslo. Over the last few years he has worked in sound design and music production for short films and other visual projects such as the interactive installation Speisa –performed at the Ultima contemporary music festival in Oslo– and for the Kube Art Museum in Ålesund. His most recent collaboration has been with the artist Thyra Dragseth.

Sixty-ninth of the monthly podcast series of Eclectic Reactions Records signed by Industrial Complexx aka Ximo Noguera from Valencia. The head of Industrial Complexx, a platform that operates as a record label, webzine and publisher, began his career as a DJ in 1991, having also released on several labels such as Soil Records, Volumens or HC Records. And although he claims to focus more on his career as a writer, with publications such as "Breve crónica sobre The Sisters of Mercy" and "40", he is more than capable of presenting us with an impeccable session lasting barely an hour, where industrial music surrounds noise, experimentation, breaks and kicks in an overwhelming, solid, dense and icy result perfect for these winter times.

John Shima - CPU Modular 1 [Central Processing Unit]

It started, as it so often does, with two old friends hanging out.

John Shima and C P Smith were joking around one evening in their home city of Sheffield. At some point, Smith challenged Shima that, if the latter could produce a record using nothing more than a small modular synth setup, then Smith would release it on his Central Processing Unit label. As heads will know, while Shima has drops on imprints like FireScope and Subwax Excursions to his name, he had never previously released anything via CPU. Shima accepted, and thus we now have his CPU debut, the four-track EP CPU Modular 1.

The specific setup that Shima worked with for these tracks was Smith’s Doepfer A-100P6 Suitcase, a small but mighty combination of modules and programmers. It’s no surprise that Shima was able to familiarise himself with the equipment in double-quick time - after all, Shima was an early adopter of the Eurorack modular format back in the day. What emerged from the CPU Modular 1 sessions was a quartet of devastatingly effective DJ tools, mid-set rollers which will get the dance moving something crazy.

Opener ‘003’ kicks the EP off as it means to go on. There’s something at once stiff-necked and buoyant about the rhythms here, all thwacking Roland tones and snares which crack like someone whipping a length of sheet metal. While the beat barrels unyieldingly onwards, the programming in the tuned modulars is more exploratory and even trippy, full of delay-laced bleeps and flighty rhythmic motifs. It comes together for a cracking mix in the vein of artists like Jerome Hill and London Modular Alliance. Second A-side cut ‘010’ is no different, the street-beat groove and grumbling low-ends underpinning all manner of modular wizardry.

CPU Modular 1 is really timeless stuff, a set of percussion-heavy, future-focussed beats which recalls Smith’s own CPU drop ‘DJ Tools Vol.1 - 808 Tracks’. ‘011’ kicks of CPU Modular 1’s second-half with a dose of Drexciyan dystopia, playing an atonal loop off of an insistent bass wiggle and neurotic hi-hats. Even when Shima tightens or slackens the modulars here, ‘011’ remains unyielding, a dose of pure ‘Wip3out’ energy that you could happily groove to all day long. The EP closes out with ‘005’, a gnarled, gurgling production which still retains the dancefloor punch of the rest of the record.

For his Central Processing Unit debut, John Shima was tasked to produce four tracks using a single small modular setup. Unsurprisingly given the pedigree of this seasoned machine-funk pro, Shima aced the assignment.
