From the depths of the apartment, swirling, downed, fussy drums are heard. An arabesque of loud vocal samples playfully jumps over the hummocks of a funky beat, making its way through a string of distorted, sometimes convulsive rhythm.

Someone is rushing around the room, putting on shiny leggings in front of the mirror and setting off the eyelids with the color of Jacko's last breath, and someone, blurring in a euphoric smile, can't get up from the chair an hour before the party.

The sounds of vicious, garage pleasure can continuously replace each other in different guises: charismatic bass incarnation, the dominance of sharp and lumpy dubstep bottoms, ripe synthesizer loops, irrational 2-step patterns and even compliant jungle drops with ragga tunes.

Each element is equivalent, so anything can get into your head. This music, which has rightfully become an integral part of British culture, grew up together with its listeners, who did not have time to blink an eye, as they got families, replacing bright parties with lamp gatherings at the home sound system.

This is not about deconstructing the style, but about its modern reincarnation and an attempt to add more soul to the second various within the framework of the Spezial Series from GLBDOM.

London’s Will Hofbauer has been steadily making a name for himself in the UK capital over the past few years via his own Third Place Records and Co-Select, an event series he runs alongside his collective with a focus on gender equality in DJ Culture, curating back to back sets with a balanced representation. Here we see Will mark a new milestone in his career with his production debut via New York’s HOMAGE Records, while hotly tipped producer and DJ Desert Sound Colony steps in on remix duties, known for his material on labels such as Scissor & Thread, Me Me Me, Futureboogie and of course his own Holding Hands.

The original mix of ‘Caned’ leads the release, laid out over six minutes with crunchy off- kilter drums, gritty disorted bass tones and wandering arpeggios all dynamically unfolding and evolving throughout. The Desert Sound Colony Remix follows next (seeing early support in from Bradley Zero, Gilles Peterson and Tristan Da Cunha), the fellow London-based artist stamps his own mark on things with a UKG tinged vibe via heavily swung drums, heady synth flutters and a menacing bass line all weaved together amongst the shuffled groove.

‘Whiplash’ follows next, fusing choppy amen breaks and bumpy broken drums alongside bubbling synths and an infectious vocal hook before ‘Rocks Off’ rounds out the release, this time round embracing a raw 4/4 approach rhythmically while a stab- led bass line, vacillating resonant synths and airy string sequences further fuel the murky, hypnotic groove.

"The second release of 3 Feet Deep takes on a darker tone, bringing together clubby tracks that are centered around strong basslines. Pépé Elle(@ppplprod) picks up right where he left off with “We Ain’t Taking Orders”—a furious track built around multiple hefty basslines, crispy hi-hats and snares, and a saturated 2-step beat. The following track “Alright Then”(@mainphase001) is a consistent construction of soulful chords and rolling snares with an altogether simplicity yielding the floor to the bassline to rule. On the first half of B side, London producer Ollie Rant(@oliver-rant) spans garage to jungle, sneaking in an array of sounds from an amen break to some cheeky strings, all the while keeping you on your toes in the best way possible. To close the EP, @zerofg offers a slice of his dark garage universe: a low-frequency bassline, deep-pressure kicks, and shuffling hi-hats and shakers, altogether threading the lines between fierce and dreamy—perhaps an accurate way to describe the entire EP."
