TAFFETA | 165

"Le café" is one of my favourite pieces from The Nutcracker. I used to listen to it on my mp3 player, but for some bizarre reason, fully turning up the volume wasn't enough to listen to all the instruments. A solution came one night. The silence and solitude of the late hours allowed me to enjoy the beauty of one of Tchaikovsky's greatest works. Back then, to compose music was just a dream. Now, it's something I simply do, and I love it.

Real Life: Have you ever been around someone completely self absorbed? They tell you all about their life and all you can do is just sit there and listen.

Mythology: Narcissus was the fairest of young men but he would give his love to no one. He cared for no one other than himself. After his unjust and uncaring treatment of Echo and others, the gods finally put a stop to his behavior.

Narcissus came across a perfectly still, crystal clear pool of water where he finally did fall in love..... with his own reflection. There he stayed always.... not moving, not eating, not drinking until he was at last gone. In the place of his demise, at the side of the water, grew a pale flower today called the narcissus. The term narcissist is used today to designate a person who is completely self-absorbed.
