The saying “Don't judge a book by its cover” can be also applied to music. Some albums, EPs, and singles have amazing covers, but the music is just… bad – or vice-versa. Many are also the case in which both the artwork and the music are simply sublime – or both, a total train wreck. No, we are not going to mention any examples. You can do this mentally by yourself (just do it, it’s fun). Right now, we’d rather stick with the release premiered here: with a badass design and a stunning selection of seven dark-as-hell cuts, Marinelli's debut EP "Manteca", marks the 60th episode of the Oviedo-based powerhouse Espacio Cielo.

The man of the hour is a Seville-based DJ, producer, and promoter, quite well-known for his work shaking the city's nightlife scene: he organizes various parties and is a resident of the monthly "Electronic Lunch" festival. For his very first output, he teamed up with an AAA+ team of remixers: none other than Rigopolar, Alen Skanner, Lebollet (RASTROLIVE004), and Moo Moonster (SXDNS054/TAKEOVER002) & Parissior (SXDNS206/FREEDL043/TAKEOVER002). 

The track we were solicited to review comes from the creative mind of Alen Skanner, a rising Spanish artist with previous works published on Sharped Records and Ritmo Fatale. For his take on “El Forastero”, Alen did what he does best: infused the original with heavy doses of stamina in the shape of fat basslines and sturdy synth layers. The slight increase in the BPM (from 124 to 127) simply made things fit like a glove. Puro FUEGO!

Having previously taken a razor to J.W.B. Hits The Beat's Body On Body track on Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX, Curses now turns his attention to the group’s House Fatale. Originally released in 1988, House Fatale is a classic example of just how fast electronic music was evolving back then, bringing together elements of Electro, Freestyle, House and more amongst a riot of samples, all elements Curses retains whilst nudging the tempo and giving the track a harder edge.

Epicure Records is thrilled to welcome Palestinian artist Sarv for his debut on the label.

Based in Haifa, Sameer, aka Sarv, is a producer, DJ and visual artist with a sound as enigmatic as it is powerful. 
As the founder of the Deviousco collective, he draws from a rich tapestry of cultural traditions, primarily from the East blending genres such as dark disco, techno, trance, and EBM. His music transcends conventional club sounds, becoming a visceral, bodily language of its own.

For this release, Sarv was inspired by the mythical figure of Sirance, a hybrid being born from Greek mythology and Islamic cosmography, as described in Zakariya al-Qazwini’s Wonders of Creatures and Strange Things Existing (13th century). 
A creature whose breath flowed through twelve holes in his nose, creating melodies so hypnotic that no one could resist. Sirance embodies an ancient fascination with music, voice and their supernatural powers, seductive, wise, or maddening.

Sarv offers his own sonic and visual interpretation of this legend through a mesmerizing track that weaves mysticism, tension and sensuality. He also created the artwork, a direct reflection of his unique inner world.

Known for his releases on pioneering UK label Nein Records and for his collaborations with international artists such as Curses, Nesa Azadikhah and Baalti, Sarv continues his musical and spiritual journey and we’re honored to have him aboard.
