This is a recording of a talk by Dr. John C. Lilly called 'Models and Beliefs'. A significant portion of this recording consists of repeated words or phrases for use as a 'mantra' or focus of meditative and/or contemplative exercises. Lilly was a pioneering neuroscientist whose work with dolphins led him into deep explorations of his own mind.

lavender, this moment’s herb
with triple syllable count

a child, he draws a fingerplane
that smells of wet and cat and nip
a giant dog is called a dane
blood pools on a bitten lip

when he’s dead, he’ll climb a tree
lilac bark as good as gold
overcome adversity
and undergo conformity as you are told

the killer smiled, the artist wept
clandestine transformations of the ear
the wind is cleanly, it has swept
away the wool night’s minders shear

is there a lie that’s not been told
uttered by the utterly convinced
made to merge into the fold
plucked and sorted and then rinsed

who tied this tie around his wrist
circle words that speak of troy
seven knuckles make a fist
seven seas to float a single buoy
