Molly in Berlin is Emma Nova Young, a Midwestern Independent Music Award-nominated multi-genre producer, DJ, and sound engineer now based in Philadelphia.

Since 2005, Emma has been DJing, hosting radio shows, and releasing experimental hip-hop and bass music under the names HipGnosis and cnstru, as well as producing, mixing, and mastering for independent artists and record labels around the world. After taking a life-renewing hiatus since 2016, she’s back with an exciting new project, Molly In Berlin. 

Fueled by an intense love of the early hardcore and rave music she grew up with and connecting that to the disparate scenes of today, Molly In Berlin weaves a psychedelic sonic tapestry into mixes and productions, hard to box into any one genre or style, but united by a love of rhythm and motion and energy.

The Failed States is a creative project based in an aged care facility in the leafy suburb of Wantirna, Melbourne Australia. 

Initially a recreational outlet, allowing residents to express themselves through music, poetry and napping, The Failed States has since taken on a life of it own. 

Anguished songs about other residents' grandchildren being too loud at the table tennis table, or laments of lukewarm, semi-set pudding were gradually replaced by powerful pieces about climate change, urban decay, relationship breakdown and stolen dentures.

There are no permanent members of The Failed States, we live on, as age, petty rivalries, and forgetfulness takes us all.

The Failed States tries to perform in the common room on the second Tuesday of every month, after lunch.
