I Do Adore

Part of 3rd year composition portfolio, these guys can sight-read anything! They really brought my scribblings to life, as a miniature none of the ideas develop too far. There are some clunky gear changes in terms of harmonic language, but otherwise I'm pretty pleased with it. One thing I'm tempted to edit is the ending, should I end on that E minor with the 4-3 suspension or just sustain and fade the previous chord? (much easier on a piano)

The text from II Samuel 18:33 is probably one of my favourite existing biblical texts. There are so many beautiful and moving setting of the words, and - although varied - I believe all of the various standard settings (Tomkins, Whitacre) explore the pain and anguish of the story told about a father and his son. 
I wanted to set this text because I believed it was the perfect opportunity to create a cathartic piece of music - and I hope I have achieved something along those lines. 

This recording was taken from the premiere performance of this piece by the Bristol University Chamber Choir in 2015, conducted by Douglas Watts. Unfortunately, the last twenty or so seconds of the recording were lost, which is why it has taken me so long to upload this recording (I have spent the last six months trying to hunt it down). However, I would like to think that the parts of the piece that remain in tact on recording give a good idea of the musical intentions.
