Next up in our mix series is our very good friend and collaborator from Copenhagen, @mamasnake - co-founder of the notorious Amniote Editions. In this mix they're showing their peerless and sublime palette, full of sleek techno, slithering psychdelia and full blooded grooves. As you are listening to this, the people in Gaza are listening to the sound of genocide as the terror state of Israel carpet bombs hospitals, mosques, schools, refugee camps and other clear cut civilian targets while the elected leaders of the western world watch in silence.

Let it be known that in November 2023 when this mix came out more than 11.000 Palestinians including more than 4500 children were slaughtered by the fascist Israeli regime in the live streamed attacks on Gaza. At this point in time, it’s been more than a month of full-scale intentional genocide and documented war crimes and the western world has yet to condemn it and take action to push for ceasefire and negotiations to end the cycle of bloodshed due to the decade long violent occupation of Palestine.

To everyone following and listening to this, please speak up, read about and share what is happening, write your government representatives, attend protests, make noise and choose humanity and call for an end to this. Ceasefire is only the beginning; the violent occupation and apartheid must end. Enough is enough.

This mix is intended as some sort of despair release - at least this is what that sounded like on the day of recording for me. It’s giving “angry, but hopeful”. Use it to fuel the outrage you should be feeling and channel that into action.

JASSS (Silvia Jiménez Alvarez) is a Berlin-based DJ, producer, and sound artist from Asturias, Spain. A former resident at OHM and Berghain's Säule, her 2017 debut Weightless on iDEAL propelled her onto the global stage, with performances at Sónar, MUTEK, and beyond. She has held residencies at EMS Stockholm, Galeria Zé dos Bois, and Villa Massimo. In 2020, she released Turbo Olé / We Solve This Talking on Whities, further cementing her avant-garde approach.

BIO:
There are few musicians who manage to explore the convergence between techno and experimental as successfully as David Letellier.
Known as Kangding Ray, he has been producing for almost a decade, releasing his music exclusively on Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts.
The aesthetic domains of these two labels epitomizes Kangding Ray’s complex sound—it’s an aesthetic that tests boundaries, evolving tirelessly in its exploration of texture, rhythm, and sound design.
Letellier’s foundations in rock and musique concrete give his music a vitality and uniqueness that has won fans the world over, from discerning avant-garde–electronica listeners, all the way to devoted clubbers.
KR has also been known for remixing artists such as Battles on Warp, Ben Frost on Mute, or Inigo Kennedy on Token.
Those who have been following Letellier since his debut album, 2006’s Stabil, will recognize not only his meticulous and constantly developing approach to sound design, but also the conceptual gravity behind his releases.
Through a string of recent EP’s and albums, culminating with the critically acclaimed “Solens Arc”, KR showed his ability to keep his artistic approach while delivering direct and powerful club-leaning tracks and darkly cinematic soundscapes. On 2015’s “Cory Arcane”, he pushed the limits of his sound even further, relinquishing standard rhythmic structures and conventional tonal models, he delivered what is perhaps his most sophisticated release yet; a raw and visceral universe, allowing a more fluid dialogue between soul and machines.
The forthcoming “HYPER OPAL MANTIS” for Stroboscopic Artefacts opens a new era for Kangding Ray, where he will explore the tension between the natural and artificial, the body and mind, which are central themes in electronic music in general, and Techno in particular. The means of creation, focused around technology and interactions with machines, contrast with the emotional response to sound, the mystical ritual of collective dancing, and the ethos of liberation and tolerance embedded in the culture it has produced.
As he describes it himself in a recent interview : “I’ve been evolving since a couple of years at the outer fringes of the club culture, where it overlaps with different experimental and avant-garde genres. While i entend to continue to explore that zone as a free maverick, i also wanted to give something back to the scene, something strong, beautiful and functional at the same time, while retaining enough personality to be exciting.”

The 40th mix in our series comes from Manchester-based duo Blasha & Allatt. As two of four founding members of Meat Free, Steffi and Tash have made a vital contribution to their adopted city’s dance music culture over the last five years and are now also starting to make a real name for themselves as DJs both around the UK and in Europe. The recognition is very well deserved as this blistering mix demonstrates, slamming through 24 brilliant selections in just over an hour and never letting up in either energy or class for even a second.
