Lobster Theremin launch their first sublabel proper, heralding a darker, murkier and deeper sound on their newly minted Mörk imprint.

Retaining it's mother label's passion for championing newcomers, Mörk launches with a debut release from young Netherlandic producer nthng. Cultivating a sound that sits somewhere between Prince of Denmark and early Claro Intelecto with splashes of Clone influence, nthng's stripped-back techno walks fuzzy, shrouded paths through nolstagic moments in time.

At times almost drowning, his engulfing sound is a raw reminder of the power of subtlety and the use of meditative looping along with a rough-around-the-edges production style has led to an incredibly moving debut work.

This native Italian & Berlin based duo needs no introduction. Mind Against started in 2011 and barely 3 years later they are on the crown jewels of the Life and Death label after showing their incredible studio skill. In 2012 and 2013 they also composed several remixes for, amongst others, WhoMadeWho, Art Department, Róisín Murphy, Green Velvet on labels such as Kompakt, Cocoon Recordings, and Vakant.

Mind Against’ sound is very difficult to describe, but we dare to say that the mixture between house and techno appears to sound very deep, trippy and provocative. When they play it’s a sure thing that one can lose themselves in the music and travel to distant universes while dancing.

It all happened pretty quickly for Alessandro and Federico Fognini. In 2011, after years of making music in one form or another, the two brothers formed a new DJ and production duo: Mind Against. Two years later they'd moved from Italy to Berlin and had their first record out on Life and Death (Atlant), with another two in the pipeline (Avalon and Strange Days). By then their DJ careers had taken off and they were playing somewhere in the world every weekend. It seems they made quite an impression on their audiences: last December, they debuted in our annual Top DJs poll all the way up at #33. 

Sometimes it's hard to say exactly why an act breaks through, but not with these guys. From the off, Mind Against had a signature sound that was immersive and completely their own: cosmic, emotionally rich and banging when it needs to be. RA.482 shows us an especially subtle side of their sound, with 58 minutes of techno that gently ebbs and flows. (Resident Advisor)

Matteo & Amedeo Giovanelli are the latest recruits from the ever-growing Grey Area Bookings roster and we have caught them just before a rather exciting release of theirs. 

Some may have seen or even experienced first hand Vaal and the Life and Death crew hammering Mathame's highly anticipated EP at ADE this year which is due to arrive on Vaal’s very own Baastard label later this month. 

Having already released on labels such as Connaisseur Recordings and Souvenir Music the pair are certainly paving their way for a very interesting project within the underground music community.

After a period of uncertain drifting between pressing delays and schedule mishaps, Lobster is finally back and rolling and bringing more snappy electro through the Theremin caverns with this long-awaited and indelible EP from Unfinished Portraits.

A collector of hardware and purveyor of the warm analogue sound, Unfinished Portraits' path is a sincere endeavour that eschews any throw-away comparisons and truly brings the raw end of the hardware techno sound to it's natural home, nestled comfortably in beautiful frequencies in the inner ear.

From the off this is a spiritual and mystical excursion, Mixed Messages curdling a thick, luminescent slime in a newly packed cauldron; wafts of hypothermal gases fill the nostrils and send one into a spiral of delusional visions and trances. A series of repetitive meditative cycles.

Closeness breaks the loop with glowing icicle stalactites glistening amongst cave-reverberated footsteps and a long frozen Drexciyan cavern finally unearthed by explorers thousands of years in the future.

Title track Memory Lake segues into view in it's own time. Riding off of the back of newly unearthed socio-political scandals, public paranoia and a recently formed revolutionary faction. It's Adam Curtis' audio calling card sent from a post-apocalyptic satellite, a call to arms and a uniting vision of a free future, warmed with hopeful but slightly off-kilter artefacts, and tainted with unsettling but oddly comforting melodies.

Obscure Alternatives rides waves of condensed sea air and effluent straight into the minds eye and out through the back of the universe. A trip into lucid, mind-altered territory where alternate histories collide with shape-shifting temporary settings and circumstances.

Drawing the release to a close is the simply-titled X. A cathartic, sludgy, hammer-driven acid mould, pressed into the shape of a mallet that simultaneously smashes the status quo whilst shattering into a thousand pieces upon impact. A slightly cold, alkaline taste skirts the edges and a higher than normal pH is left on the palette of the tongue. Definitely not your standard acid burner.
