Co-founder of Norway’s future-facing Ute crew, Ekkel (Teo Bachs) has a front-row seat in the cockpit on their psychedelic flavoured quest. From their woodland beginnings they’ve staked a claim to freedom through music and community, and expanded to include brick and mortar club nights and a self-titled label for the release of their magnetic and mysterious techno sounds. Forest-bath electronics that take stock of Scandinavia’s ambient tradition and cross-pollinate it with a measure of acid, trance and midnight sun. Teo’s own steadily rising number of productions (side project H25 included) has fleshed out Ute’s vision with a personal twist, and there’s another three scheduled for the fall. The past few years too have seen him hard at work exploring the possibilities of sound in a lonely cabin as part of Solar Alliance, collaborating with S.O.N.S on Korean label Junction Forest and producing many more unreleased tracks, some of which you’ll hear here first for a very special number. It’s a wormhole trip that marches headlong from the shadows, shimmering and physical beats that heave and swell, tribal breaks that flit from track to track and build a cathartic mood that harks back to Ute’s woodland roots. Previous Bassiani Podcast guest Marius Bø is the Oslo-based co-founder of trance collective Ute. From its nascent beginnings in the frozen woods, the efforts of this band of electronic kinsmen has expanded to include remarkable events in striking natural locations and running three record imprints. Their unique approach to dance music is a conduit for a manifestly Scandinavian and handcrafted blend of the most ethereal and cutting-edge sounds out there. For this next Zenaari mix, the Norwegian selector reveals a more introspective and stripped-down side, offering a journey into the esoteric realm of memories, dreams and other plains. Softly crackling, fuzzy, yearning, this other side is a beautiful score that gently laps its ambient hum against any preconceptions his Ute followers have come to form. Its synthesised radiance is a particulate mist you enter into and emerge from, a haunting call that wistfully conjures a different kind of woodland spirit. Marius’ stargazing requiem, an immersive two hour trip for the mind, iridescent and strangely shimmering sounds from the ether.

Zenaari Mix 015 - Marius Bø

Irakli Kiziria is a much lauded cultural force in his chosen home Berlin. For over a decade, the Georgian transplant has been crafting a space somewhere between belligerent rhythm and ambient dreamscape with a growing number of influential projects to his name. His 10am-10pm STAUB parties offering legendary daytime gathering soundtracked by an incognito list of techno’s finest, and earlier collaboration in the form of I/Y also setting forth a voice and imprint to publish the work of consonant peers. More recently, his home-listening outlet Intergalactic Research Institute For Sound has funeled his energies towards a “dreamy, more abstract, 'intergalactic' music”. And it’s from this realm that this next Zenaari instalment emerges: a tripped-out reverie that walks his more delicate line. Zenaari Mix 016 weaves together gently waltzing piano interludes with the chiming of bells, lullaby warps with the analogue crackle of a vintage speaker and the confident strumming of a lute. Irakli given free-hand to explore his space in heavens and this is the result, an intimate augur for a promising future and 80-minute (all vinyl) podcast hued with the longing and strange.

NEXUS: THE ROBOTS

This track lives in the final corridor of the anger chapter of my story “While They Were Sleeping.” The candles are flickering. The world is breaking. And the Devil  the one from a story I wrote called “The One Who Watched from the Fire”  reveals himself. Not with flames. But with doubt.

“Is This Where It Ends?” is his grand theme. The sound of urgency, fear, and the unbearable weight of almost giving up. It’s the final test: when your story is unraveling, when every version of you is falling apart, when the voices are loud and the silence is louder.

It’s cinematic. It’s chaotic. It’s spiritual fire. This is what it sounds like when the Devil asks you to surrender and you almost do.

But something  maybe memory, maybe love still burns.

Is This Where It Ends ?
