The first sentences of Nicholas Tremulis' new 10-page memoir are undeniably arresting: “When I was 4 
years old, I wanted to be music. Not play it. Be it.” So begins his captivating For The Baby Doll, a small 
slice of the musician's life.” – Rick Kogan, Chicago Tribune 

And so concludes the nearly two-year journey that yields NTO’s eighth full-length album, a work described 
by music insiders as “their masterpiece”.  Baby Doll beckons with the stunning cover of philosopher Simone 
de Beauvoir’s backside, in a photo captured by legendary photographer Art Shay in the home of Nelson 
Algren. The elongated CD package perfectly displays the image and provides a home for the 
accompanying 36 page book that features a short memoir by Nick and an introduction from acclaimed 
novelist/Dublin book award winner Michael Thomas. 

“I wanted to write an album of true love songs,” describes Nick on the inspiration behind the powerful, 
storied collection of tunes imploring to “Push It” or the plaintive, forceful “Without You With Me”. 

“The good and bad of it, mind you. But mostly I wanted to tap into the untainted love of my youth that was 
guided by a radio filled with great operas of love from the 60‘s girl groups and their latter siblings, the 
glam groups of the 70’s.” And NYC’s Baby Doll Lounge provided a backdrop for then 19 year old Nick 
that he carried with him in a lifetime of songwriting. “Walking into the East Village for the first time was 
like walking into my dreams, everyone looked like they were in a band.”

Nick muses of the mates he’s been with for 25 years “We’re a well traveled and storied band. If I had to 
pick a handful of tunes that best describe who we are and where we’ve been, it’d be this record. This is the 
one…without a doubt.” 

A Few Facts for 25 Years of NTO

• Hand picked by Chris Blackwell in the late 80’s for his Island Records label with two full-length releases. 
• A record of songs and collaborations with famed beat poet Gregory Corso and another with Rick Danko of The Band 
as well as further albums with longtime friends Alejandro Escovedo and Ivan Neville.

• NTO was the last band to play with Rick Danko.

• A celebrated 5 year benefit concert series called The Waltz in which NTO backed up some 80 guest artists including 
Jeff Tweedy, Steve Earle, Mavis Staples, Billy Corgan, Ronnie Spector, Ian Hunter, Marianne Faithfull, David Johasen, 
Hubert Sumlin, to name a few.

• Recordings and performances with the likes of Keith Richards to composer/world musician David Amram.

• The 52 Reasons project, in which NTO wrote and recorded a song a week for an entire year.
 
• Nick’s idea of a side project is brainchild Candy Golde, featuring band mates Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick), John Stirratt 
(Wilco) and Rick Rizzo (Eleventh Dream Day) Their limited edition vinyl EP yielded the single “Trouble’s Coming Down On 
Me”, knighted ‘Coolest Song in The World’ by Little Steven’s Underground Garage. Next up, The Fauntleroys with 
Escovedo. 

• A Chicago born and raised hero who has toured the world, Nick tends to his roots on WXRT’s weekly radio show Eclectic
Company with fellow compadre Jon Langford.
