Over the past 12 months we have indulged in an infinite number of outstanding releases spanning the electronic music spectrum and we would like to thank every artist, record label and publicist that have reached out to share their art with us.

2022 has proved to be an exceptionally challenging year, but the quality of output never ceases to amaze us. As the annual tradition goes, we've shortlisted the albums that have helped influence and soundtrack our year, as well as concluding with a top ten list of what we perceive to be the Best Albums of 2022.

Delsin is pleased to welcome a true pillar of the contemporary techno scene, Answer Code Request (@answercoderequest), for his first EP in six years.

As an integral part of the Ostgut Ton family since breaking through some 10 years ago, Patrick Gräser has shaped a patient but potent discography which embodies the hybridised nature of techno in the 21st Century. His distinctive style of melodically embellished, subtly fractured body music helps define the contemporary zeitgeist, but it also moves with enough emotional maturity to stand on its own terms as compelling, artist-led electronic music.

Arriving some four years after his second LP Gens, the Shattering EP opens in an especially exploratory mode as Gräser teases elements of breakbeat and ambient techno on the spellbinding ‘Resonate’. ‘Shattering’ finds a different palette through which to explore broken rhythms, leaning in on a heavyweight bassline injected with rave-wired distortion. There are more linear techno pulses to be found in the tunnelling propulsion of ‘CRS-21’, but in the interests of contrast the EP closes with the sparkling refraction of ‘Sustaining Life’, a floor-ready masterclass in electronica with teeth.

The ordinary is a compromise between fiction and reality. At night, when it sleeps, life smuggles new tales under its bed. In the morning, it always feels a bit woozy and blames it on the weather. Wondering how quickly time passes, or how this or that politician could be elected.

On his debut album "Don't Worry You Can Always Be Reborn As a Screenshot", Alienationist explores the ordinary and its fabrication in the 21st century. The album is a result of intense psychogeographic journeys through cities, forests, malls, and data highways on which loose dots of ordinariness lying around were connected and put into dialogue with bass-heavy club music, sardonic poetry, queer theory, sonic fiction, and field recordings.

The release includes a self-printable poster and a short pdf book of poetry, some of which appears in the tracks. The eight tracks are dialectic tales of self-doubt, loneliness, reality dysphoria, and precarity. Yet, they evoke a space of radical autonomy that celebrates rather than lament alienation as a default condition of life.

Alienationist (aka Kl.ne) is a Berlin-based musician, writer, and poet with a passion for blissful breakbeats, apocalyptic ambient, and hyperreal everyday observations. It started as an experimental writing alias with randomly scattered texts on the internet in 2015 before it eventually crystallized into a multimedia art project at the intersection of bass-heavy club music, auto-theory, and a middle finger toward binary thinking. Most recently he launched the blog “Reality Glitch”, hosted by the German newspaper Taz.

Soma proudly presents Functional Designs, the latest collection of nocturnal environments from Deepchord, marking his first full length album release on Soma in 5 years. The enigmatic Detroit based producer once again transports us into his sonic realm via night-walks through numerous cities before being transmuted into aural excellence through field recordings, holographic synth tones, cosmic sounds and the hiss of electric wires. All swimming around in filtered 4/4 beats and subterranean basslines. The album is a perfect example of electroacoustic techno transmitted from undisclosed locations, the amalgamation of swirling tapestries of sound, deeper than night and lifeforms moving around underneath the grid.
