At Unsound 2021, Shackleton and Wacław Zimpel will present a new work entitled ‘The Spirit Still Remains’, an Unsound-commissioned performance involving alto clarinet, electronics and voice. Broadly understood as ritual and devotional music, the work will explore transcendence, love and death.
As part of the Unsound podcast series, Shackleton and Zimpel were asked to make a mix that would somehow connect to this project, to perhaps reveal some of its inspirations and reference points.
Shackleton and Zimpel say: “Over the course of the past couple of years, we have often recorded or rehearsed together. Generally at the end of the day, we might get a couple of beers in and listen to other people's music. Some of it is stuff we both know and like, some of it music that one of us thought the other might like. When we were asked to do the mix, we thought it might be good to select music that we had listened to together. Then we decided to expand the scope a bit to fit more of a common theme. Broadly speaking, the mix is intended to be ritual, sacred or meditative music in various forms, something we are trying to achieve with our project. We hope you enjoy it.”

Gabriel aka Le Beat-qui-nique is a young music lover who comes straight from the Parisian suburbs. His inherent eclecticism has been cultivated through experiences in diverse settings, including urban cities, underground parties,  festivals, and record stores around the world. With his passion for vinyl, he launched his first house and techno parties in Paris with his friend Aymeric Duvi in 2017. Very quickly, their appetite for music pushed them to collaborate with fine diggers, each one crazier than the other. Today the Azi Chuicho vibes are also spread in Belgium after Gabriel moved to Brussels in 2021. Those parties are nothing but a good dose of musical slaps and bad puns picked up between friends.

DJ Slim Fit aka Pîrvu eturns to Black Rhino Radio for a two-hour set of rear music findings in the realm of acid house, techno, electro, breakbeat and rave. Expect gems and forgotten tunes, dubs, own productions and forthcoming music. 

Pîrvu is, above all, a passionate electronic music producer easy surfing through styles and tempos. Musically, he gets inspired by the early bassline-driven UK sound of the ‘90s and the rave air of that same intense decade.

Besides the singular act, Pîrvu is collaborating with his wife, Alexandra, on the ‘The Apricots project. The duo plays back2back dancefloor-oriented music and slower beats like ambient, downtempo, jazz, trip-hop and experimental electronic music.

Don't say we aren't good to you. Ending the year with a bang we bring you a special mix from the one and only Steve Rachmad, the longstanding Dutch techno veteran. A pivotal figure in dance and electronic music, he has cast a spell upon techno in a manner unlike any other, his music championed far and wide by a sprawling array of dj's. Never one to stand still he has channeled his creativity across a number of personalities and guises having released as A Scorpion's Dream, Adverse Match, Black Scorpion, Continuous Cool and of course Sterac. 

His music is machine driven, drawn on a wealth of experience and experimentation through hardware and analogue equipment whilst in the booth his approach as a dj is versatile and constantly changing. 

This mix was recorded at Thuishaven as part of the close of their winter season.
