This is my first track that isn't vocal work! If you want to listen first, please do not read any further. If you want to read about the thought process while listening, then continue!

At first it didn't really have a direction but as I started trying different chords and melodies I came up with the concept of uncertainty. The fourth chord in the piano loop doesn't resolve on purpose. When I added the basses, it added a little warmth and a sort of dissonance conceptually with the piano in it's hopeful tone. The lead, the colder woodwinds, were written with a more melancholic tone.

During the second half the basses and lead switch and the bass takes on the warm but melancholic sound while the violins take on a colder but persistent sound. The snare that is introduced represents the concept of forever marching forward despite the warm, the cold, the hope, the sorrow, and the uncertainty.

Finally at the end we see the tempo slow, and with the final chords of the last measure, we finally hear a resolution towards the melancholic resolution. 

Fire does indeed melt frost, but the water that remains takes a toll on the fire.
