We sometimes forget that music is cyclical. As a new generation of clubbers discover sounds for the first time, they mistakenly believe the decades old genres are somehow a new phenomenon. The styles we attach to the terms techno, trance, progressive, and house are moving targets at best — words that are now redefined on an almost weekly basis.

Cycles is Max Graham’s “Yearly Snapshot” of his own musical journey, a collection representing the natural progression in his taste. As always with Cycles the elements of melody shine through this classically mixed compilation (like Graham’s own ‘Redemption’ and his remix of Solid Stone and Jennifer Rene’s haunting vocal tune ‘Not Enough’), but much like his successful career over so many years the mix takes a wide arc of influence as it moves from Tim Penner’s lovely piano opening to Alex Di Stefano’s tough as nails “Black Panther” and back down to a perfectly fitting closing track by Gai Barone entitled “Psycles” (written exclusively for this mix). 

Solid Stone, a mainstay in Graham’s set list, has no less than three unreleased tracks. Also making two appearances is rising star Thomas Vink whose production style effortlessly combines organic Techno beats with beautiful melody and emotion. From Guy J’s progressive label Lost n Found to Techno’s Drumcode and Yin Yang Cycles once again celebrates all that’s good on that dance floor regardless of genre. 

Like Cycles Radio this compilation showcases the ongoing diversity and evolution in Graham’s sound, it’s the closest representation to what you’ll feel at a 6+ hour Open to Close set condensed into 78 minutes of well constructed bliss. As the musical landscape changes we welcome this, the 6th revolution of Cycles and are eager to see where the pioneer heads next.

Poker Flat capture Mark Henning in a rich vein of form for this EP of deadly deep and intense tech house. For almost a decade, the Anglo-German, Berlin-based DJ has turned out consistent releases on an array of underground labels, but here his trademark combination of darkness, swing and technoid funk reaches new levels.

'Pusher' is a modern masterpiece: tough, crisp and fine-tuned for deployment on Stonehenge-sized speaker stacks, it's a tune that envelops you, the introduction of each individual element staggered for maximum effect. 'Somebody let me get my sh*t,' the repeated vocal declares: a request the tune responds to magnificently.

The kinetic shuffle of 'Swingers' follows a similar trajectory, overwhelming the listener with its relentless energy. 
Through the simple yet spooky Hitchcockian device of a single repeated piano note 'Triple 13' hypnotises, a trippy snatch of processed vocal providing a hallucinatory edge, while 'Satin' explores dreamier territory with a reverberating New Age synth motif. 

All four tracks are masterclasses in restraint from a producer who can combine deceptively simple elements to make a resounding and inimitable emotional impact. Aptly named, this EP is simply the only drug you'll need.

The trailblazers of the late 90s, alongside X-Dream and The Delta whose innovative sounds pioneered a new wave of Psychedelic Tech Trance return to the scene after a decade. Mittelstandskinder Ohne Strom (MOS) have produced 3 albums, numerous 12 inches, and tasteful remixes of other artists.

Sleep, features one previously unreleased track, and a remix by BMSS artist Datacult. The original version pairs layers of dark melodic enlightenment, subtle percussive atmospheres, pulsing drums, industrial sounds and traveling vocal effects, to create crisp new astral dimensions. Datacults confident chunky edit involves low lingering basses that creep through metallic spirals of sonic barbed wire sharpened with punchy clear kicks. My name is Matthias and I was born in Bavaria in the 70s. In my early years as a youngling I had to learn a lot of uncool instruments and because i never found fun in play scales for hours I didn‘t really practice and instead had more time for other interests. Since I can‘t sing and can‘t play any cool instruments but aIlways loved to listen to music and when the first Front 242 CD finally found its way into my CD player, I was hooked on electronic music. I started to buy synthesizers from my first hard earned money and started a long jouney into experimental music, noise and industrial sounds. I released music on vinyl, cassette and traveled the world playing noise shows and enjoying life to the full. 
Over the years my musical interests shifted towards dark ambient and idm for some deep space exploration trips to the outer rims of the solar system. During a short visit back to good old earth I went on a walk through the winter woods with some decent black metal in my ears and uncle Albert by my side and for a moment the Spirit of the Forest appeared and gave me a mission to spread love and happines among human beings. 
On that day my journey into the world of psychedelic music started and from that day on, I am trying hard to develop some lovely melodies but it never works out. Instead, I end up with some darker tunes,.... a truly desperate situation, I assure you..... but I am on a mission and I won‘t stop spreading lovely darkness to the masses!!
