Hot Creations hit us with another monster of a release this time from Tom Dinsdale (ex-Audio Bully’s) under his new project Mineo. Title track ‘Turn Out The Lights’ is an intoxicatingly deep groover with a dense low riding bassline, punchy warm chords and an infectious dark male vocal adding a real standout element for the dancefloor. Over on the B-side label head Jamie Jones is on remix duty to deliver one of his best, picking up the pace and turning it into a deep and powerful techy monster, twisted and dark, perfect for the later hours. On a more uplifting tip, the second track from Mineo ‘Off The Handle’ again carries that distinct UK sound. Bass heavy with perfect underlying swing the track twists and turns through different percussion patterns with captivating distorted vocals riding through the many layers.

Tom Dinsdale aka Mineo has been buried away in the studio for the past eighteen months working on music for his new solo project. Sending the tracks to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss as demos, they were soon snapped up and have become a staple part in both of their sets, smashing dancefloors worldwide from Ibiza to Burning Man festival.

Busier than ever with his hectic schedule, Jamie Jones has been touring as a solo artist but also along with Lee Foss, Ali Love and Luca C as their Hot Natured band, headlining their own events at the likes of Brixton Academy and festivals including Sonar and Glastonbury. Along with this Jamie has been running his Paradise night at DC10 in Ibiza for it’s second year with huge line ups featuring big names like Richie Hawtin and Loco Dice but also the new artists Jamie is pushing such as wAFF and Patrick Topping. Finding the time somehow, Jamie has also been hard at work in the studio producing music with the Hot Natured crew with a recent debut album release and also doing a number of remixes for his three record labels.

The Danish-born Berlin-based singer-songwriter Agnes Obel landed a pan-European hit with her disarmingly beautiful debut album ‘Philharmonics’. After seven weeks at #1 in Denmark and hitting the Top 10 in both France and the Netherlands, the deluxe double CD version of the album will be released in the UK on May 2nd on Play It Again Sam.

Entirely self-produced and performed, ‘Philharmonics’ opens with the instrumental piano piece ‘Falling, Catching’ which sets the tone for Obel’s classically inspired songwriting. The next track, ‘Riverside’, flows with a depth of emotion embedded with further character by Obel’s love of combining her sweet melodies with carefully considered lyrics that evoke the song’s innate sound. ‘Just So’ works a similar trick, its blend of melancholy and optimism perfectly encapsulated into the opening line ‘Black turns beat me bright.’ Elsewhere, with ‘On Powdered Ground’, ‘Brother Sparrow’ or her interpretation of John Cale’s ‘Close Watch’, she melds different moods and atmospheres, all indelibly linked by the brittle majesty of her music.

The deluxe edition of the album adds a second CD featuring six tracks recorded at Obel’s recent acclaimed residency of sold-out shows in Copenhagen and five instrumental piano performances.

As a child, Obel was subconsciously guided into music by the influence of her mother and father, who would play and listen to a blend of the classical greats, folk music like Jan Johansson and the timeless sounds of Roy Orbison. After discovering the likes of Portishead and Elliott Smith as a teenager, she began writing her own piano-based songs, but it wasn’t until she moved to Berlin in 2006 that she began recording an album.

Many of the songs on ‘Philharmonics’ have subconsciously found an audience through their use in film and television. ‘Just So’ soundtracked a Deutsch Telekom advert, which gave Obel the unusual combination of having a song that everyone knew while having almost no profile as an artist herself. But soon opportunities presented themselves and continue to do so. One of Obel’s earliest breaks came when three of her demos featured in cult director Thomas Vinterberg’s film Submarino – ‘Riverside’ earned her a Robert Award (Denmark’s equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Song of the Year. Her music also reached a bigger North American and international audience when ‘Riverside’ was used in Grey’s Anatomy.

iTunes extended Obel’s profile further by requesting an exclusive release of ‘Philharmonics’ and highlighting Obel on the home page of their North American website. The attention of the press has been consistently positive with Vogue and culture magazine Telerama producing in-depth features in France, while Obel will also feature in both the North American and European issues of TIME.

After a huge remix for Psychemagik (Black Noir Schwarz), Crosstown Rebels prepares to release the highly anticipated next full EP from Tom Dinsdale’s fast-rising solo alias, Minéo. Already getting a monster reaction on dancefloors, as Damian Lazarus will attest, ‘Get Out Fight’ displays Minéo’s distinctively UK sound and idiosyncratic, patchwork production style. A 4-tracker that ranges from the punky attitude, wonky percussion and deep, growling grooves and vocal licks of ‘Get Out Fight’ to the hints of ska in Madness-sampled ‘Killer (Rude Boy)’ and the slinky garage, RnB-spliced edge of ‘Soaking Wet’ and low-slung ride ‘Don’t Know My Name’ - this is a killer package, and statement of very creative intent.

Tom Dinsdale aka Minéo first appeared on the scene last October when Jamie Jones and co. received a demo and snapped up ‘Turn Out The Lights’ for the Hot Creations imprint making it a huge club hit. A follow up release dropped on the illustrious Hypercolour last month and the latest was a remix for Todd Terry’s ‘Feel The Sun’ out now on Southern Fried Records.

Always a nurturing sort of label, a relationship with Crosstown Rebels started to bloom when Minéo came on board to remix Psychemagik’s latest smash ‘Black Noir Schwarz’ - and the rock solid original material ‘Get Out Fight’ is set to be huge for the label as Minéo really comes into his own as an artist. It’s also another example of the label’s breadth of taste and its continually evolving catalogue.

1. The name "AYO ALEX" comes from my good friend Dante making fun of my little brother Daniel's voice (that's deeper than mine) who always used to start sentences addressed at me with "Ayo Alehhx". (Example: "Ayo Alehhx, dad sez u gotta take me to baseball" or "Ayo Alehhx" dad sez take out the trash")

3. I play the drums, baritone, trumpet, guitar (poorly), sing a lil, and know enough piano to make it look like I know what I'm doing

2. At HARD Summer this summer, @DestructoHARD played my "Move That Dope" bootleg, the first time any of my music was played at any festival. My whole crew was there and freaked out... while I was in line getting water.
