The young producer, Joseph DeFaria aka J•POOL (@j_pool), originally from the south of Canada, has been living a nomadic lifestyle for most of his adult life. Working in the forests of Canada in the summers as a tree planter, and traveling the rest of the year, Joe started his project "J•POOL" with the goal of creating music that is inspired by the many different natural environments in which he spends his life. His intention is to produce music that will make people move and feel the connection to their innerself and the world around them.

The „Awakening“ EP was carefully composed, blending rhythmic and melodic elements from around the world to form a colourful, meditative collage of sound. Soundscapes of natural environments dance with the instrumentation to create a lush, submersing organic experience.

Following his collaboration with Nicolas Jaar's Clown & Sunset label, Cruz has self-produced and self-recorded this landmark album. 

‘Prender el Alma’ is a new strain of Latin American music Cruz calls ‘Andes Step’. Influenced by new digital technology, blended with local influence, Cruz builds his tracks layer by layer, instrument by instrument, drum by drum, exploring local indigenous and Afro-cosmologies in a modern setting. 

From atmospheric opener ‘Sanacion’, the 10-track album journeys through short, sharp acoustic guitar riffs on ‘Puente Roto’ and the percussive ‘La Mirada’, to the electronic ‘Prender el Alma’. Down-beat ‘Equinoccio’ gets a vocal kick from Ecuadorian singer Huaira, ending with the blissful, lo-fi ‘Cocha Runa’ featuring Tanya Sanchez. ‘Prender el Alma’ ebbs and flows through a range of production of local sounds, feeling like a digital awakening.

This digital revolution is spreading through Latin America like wildfire, and nowhere is this more exciting than in the heart of the continent's bustling music scene, where Nicola Cruz is leading the way. 

Led by forward-thinking young producers and musicians, Ecuador is beginning to experience its own digital folklore revolution.  A new crop of producers and musicians are using homeland traditions and rhythms to build on a vibrant history of visual and sonic art, catapulting them into the 21st century.

ZZK are at the forefront of this burgeoning music scene. With artists such as Frikstailers, La Yegros, El Remolon and Chancha Via Circuito, they are defining a new and exciting Latin American music culture.

Populous is Andrea Mangia, a producer hailing from Lecce, a small city on the heel of Italy's boot. In 2003, he made his first jaunt into the music world with the album Quipo (via Morr Music). In 2005 he released Queue For Love, influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy's Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) and in 2008 he released Drawn in Basic. Both albums were widely received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global music map. He became known for the way he seamlessly blends digital sounds with the analog warmth of soul/hip-hop/whatever else he's influenced by at the time.

In 2014, he released Night Safari via Bad Panda Records. The album, for Populous, was the embodiment of a dream. "This record is an imaginary nighttime safari to discover uncontaminated landscapes, strange creatures, wild animals, and mysterious lights," he told Thump Magazine. The record received praise from international media outlets, and was revered for its ability to sonically transcend borders.

Azulejos, his forthcoming release, has a South American tinge to it (and is even partly in Spanish). He moved to Lisbon, Portugal to start work on the album bringing with him only a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, and a microphone. "Lisbon became both my studio and my muse," he says. He wandered the city collecting field recordings— from trams to people singing on street corners. He sifted through flea markets for records to use for sampling (exclusively Portuguese and South American). Populous describes Lisbon as a city 'halfway between South American soul and European modernity, African in some aspects, and dramatically melancholic." He channeled these poignant fusions into Azulejos, named for the typical tiled facades in Portugal— simultaneously bright and decaying. The album features collaborations with Nina Miranda of Smoke City and Ela Minus, among others. It's a love letter to Lisbon, and a dreamy quilt of sounds he both grew up with and heard for the first time during his influential stay in Portugal.

A follow-up to Waxploitation’s 2012 genre- defining compilation Future Sounds of Buenos Aires, the label returns to explore a new school of Argentinian electronic music artists creating world-wide, dance floor shattering beats that take as much from the ancestral sounds of the Andean mountains as they do from minimal techno, house, UK grime and bhangra beat.

Future Sounds of Argentina is a 15 track compilation featuring musicians unafraid to create music that mixes folk with hip hop, Brazilian pop with the twang of the charango, or even Hindu instrumentation with traditional cumbia percussion. With nuance, soul and heart, these artists re-interpret digital folklorica to match their constant flux and unparalleled hunger to bridge the dated divides between North and South, city and country, folklore and pop –creating music that’s fresh, current and deeply ingenious. 

Klik & Frik, the new project from digital cumbia heavyweights, Frikstailers, lead the way into the exciting evolution of Argentinian electronic music, featuring a mixture of minimal techno, psychedelia and Amazonian birdsong that promises to put the listener in a trance-like state.

Following their footsteps are other digital folklorica veterans like Lagartijeando (a/k/a Mati Zundel), Barrio Lindo and Camanchaca, who leave behind the frenetic nature of their earlier tracks, representing the transformation of the Buenos Aires electronic music scene –from producing straight up party bangers to creating timeless, omnivore beats that incorporate everything from charango guitar and accordion loops, quena, cumbia beats and thumping bass.

Representing a different side of Argentinian electronic music is the MC Macha Kiddo, who shows off her combative, UK grime inspired beats and urgent bars. A Costa Rican transplant, she came to Argentina in search of new sounds, getting inspired by Buenos Aires’ vibrant female MC scene.

This is the second installment of the series, that began with 2012’s Future Sounds of Buenos Aires, and included influential acts like Chancha Via Circuito, La Yegros and King Coya. FSOA is representative of Waxploitation’s commitment to helping discover and nurturing new talent, fostering collaboration and bringing to light extraordinary ideas in contemporary music.

Rey&Kjavik had a great year 2017, not only with the release of his debut album „Rkadash“. His remix for Tunisian world music duo YUMA occupied the Beatport charts for months and took the world (music scene) by storm. Rey & Kjavik’s treatment for Swiss singer / songwriter Danit could follow in those footsteps, as he treats the musical piece with respect and adds the right portion to bring it to another level... another proof, that the German producer and DJ has clearly found his trademark sound!
Danit is a Swiss singer songwriter, whose music is an expression of gratitude for life and nature. Cuatro Vientos, speaks of four winds that come from the mountains, the ocean, the desert and the forest; each one bringing its unique quality.

thds is a teamwork between Belgian-Portuguese multi-instrumentalist ‘Raoul’ and Belgian-Colombian vocalist-percussionist ‘Pierre’. Growing up in the same Jesuit forest school, they have developed a natural and resourceful brotherhood. Being influenced by their own cultural roots, they harmoniously combine acoustic and electronic music with organic world music.

The duet is obsessed with simplicity. Their musical will is to reduce superficiality to quintessence: life, nature, truth. Therefore they experiment around the themes of happiness, ecology and multiculturalism.

The two brothers started thds in April 2017 with a documentary video about their childhood city of ‘Luik’. They released ‘Peace Green’ in late 2017 on Lump Records (Chile-Mexico) and 'Walonreye' on Akumandra (NYC-Mexico) in 2018.

On this EP we have also 2 beautiful remixes from Lerr (Montenegro) & Rabih Rizk (Lebanon).

Sueno Azul includes Josephs own guitar and ukulele playing. It invokes a dream like state in the beginning with a recording of an ancient South American incantation and a floating ukulele melody and then dives into a contemplative guitar section. A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that occur in the mind, the tension created between the sections of this song represents the incredible complexity and profound impact that these experiences have on our lives.

Poesie Musik has the very special honor to announce the release of a remix of a song known the world over, authored by no less than Sade. One of the prolific singer's most well-known creations, ‚Pearls‘ is given a deluxe makeover by German dance floor mainstay Timo Jahns, whose moody, melancholy personal sound fits perfectly with the sultry vocals on one of the crooner's most moving songs. 

Hailing from Göttingen, Timo Jahns has carved out a name for himself on the German party circuit thanks in part to an endless list of edited music and remixes on labels like Ponsactrilau, Underyourskin Records, Neverending, Cometomusic, Klang Gymnastik and 9Volt, as well as his own imprint FREUNDCHEN RECORDS, created for an intimate circle of few. 

This latest foray into the reworking of certain melodic masterpieces comes after Timo’s remixes of music by the likes of songstress Melody Gardot and Bon Iver just last year. For this special rendition of ‚Pearls‘, the producer has carefully lead the tune into deep-house terrains and turned it into a track just begging for summer afternoons and thoughtful chill-out sessions.
