English: Macaúba is the name of the debut EP of Renato Rocha project, Kurup. Multicultural artist and dweller of Brazilian savanna’s biome “Cerrado”, Renato never stopped migrating among genres and music styles, creating bridges between the organic and the artificial; analogic and digital; acoustic and electronic. In this first compilation, Kurup brought to us his narrative and progressive intention, mixing new supports with old stories that worth to be told again. His research with traditional and folklore music (specially from Latin culture) demonstrate his interests about reframing and reinventing. The search to find fresh or old renewed musical resources represent his desire in transcending the present time.

The Kingdom of Benin, also known as the Benin Kingdom, was a pre-colonial kingdom in what is now southern Nigeria. It is not to be confused with Benin, the post-colonial nation state. The Kingdom of Benin's capital was Edo, now known as Benin City in Edo state. The Benin Kingdom was "one of the oldest and most highly developed states in the coastal hinterland of West Africa", it was formed around the 11th century, until it was annexed by the British Empire in 1897. The original people and founders of the Benin Kingdom, the Edo people, were initially ruled by the Ogiso (Kings of the Sky) who called their land Igodomigodo. The first Ogiso (Ogiso Igodo), wielded much influence and gained popularity as a good ruler. He died after a long reign and was succeeded by Ere, his eldest son. In the 12th century, a great palace intrigue erupted and crown prince Ekaladerhan, the only son of the last Ogiso, was sentenced to death as a result of the first queen (who was barren) deliberately changing an oracle's message to the Ogiso. In carrying out the royal order that he be killed, the palace messengers had mercy and set the prince free at Ughoton near Benin. When his father the Ogiso died, the Ogiso dynasty officially ended. The people and royal kingmakers preferred their late king's son as the next to rule. The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan had by this time changed his name to Izoduwa (meaning 'I have chosen the path of prosperity') and found his way to Ile-Ife. It was during this period of confusion in Benin that the elders, led by Chief Oliha, mounted a search for the banished Prince Ekaladerhan - whom the Ife people now called Oduduwa. Oduduwa, who could not return due to his advanced age, granted them Oranmiyan, his grandson, to rule over them. Oranmiyan was for many years the ruler of Africa, the one and only king, who he build the legendary pyramids of Senegal, now vanished, one of the lost wonders of today’s world!!

That in love with the Earth, with its twilight amaranth and arterial rivers, snowy peaks, fiery volcanoes, green valleys and proud forests, they approached, every night, the contours of the moon to look at that blue land that bewitched them. And so it happened all the ceremonies, especially those of full moon. One day they got so close to the lunar edge that they ended up falling to Earth. This legend - not written - is drawn on the rock, on a gigantic eaves, in a place in Patagonia. It is a shamanic place.

Our generation has taken many causes but the most important cause is sometimes forgotten and that's our planet's ecosystem. Since the Industrial Revolution, humanity has killed 83% of all wild mammals and half of all plants of the Earth. Two hundred species of living beings are going extinct every single day. We collectively need to change so many things in areas such as the use of plastic, meat consumption, contaminating energies, day to day overconsumption and more. How can artists raise awareness regarding this?

Thinking on how to be simple but at the same time Universal, Cosmovision Records presents ¨Animals of the Earth¨. For this project we have gathered to co-create an ecosystem that lives in a music album. Producers from many places on Earth explored their connections with our animal cousins, remembering that the monkey, the wolf, the polar beer and all the others are our partners in the long trip that this green and lively planet takes in the Universe.

We invite you to come with us on this journey through the musical ecosystem of the ¨Animals of the Earth vol.2¨ to discover, respect and care for these beautiful beings that live with us.
