Dario Aiello’s first EP for NuNorthern Soul as My Friend Dario, Cosmic Sailing, was one of the label’s most inspired releases of 2020 – a six-track musical voyage into the unknown that cannily combined elements of Balearic disco, ambient, turn-of-the-90s Italian dream house, horizontal jazz-funk and colourful synth-boogie.

With such strong musical motifs and instrumentation to work with, NuNorthern Soul boss Phil Cooper decided to ask some well-established producers and friends-of-the family to put their own spin on the Sicilian producer’s EP. The result is Cosmic Sailing Remixed, a four-track set of reworks that takes Aiello’s mesmerising, atmospheric and enveloping cuts to whole new musical places.

Crazy P’s Chris Todd dons his now familiar Hot Toddy guise for an EP-opening revision of ‘Neve Su Acireale’. Todd makes the most of Aiello’s Pat Metheny style jazz guitar motifs, teasing the track in via an ambient intro that recalls both the Orb’s earliest singles and Steve Reich classic ‘Electric Counterpoint’. After building tension through loose-limbed, progressively more intense drum fills, Todd unleashes a glorious Balearic disco groove that carries the track forwards towards a blissful conclusion.

There was a sombre ambience as the old train snaked its way through the mountains along the dusty track. The dim lights inside the carriage didn't allow much insight into what lay beyond the dense and blackened windows. A mist had risen around the train amidst the midnight hour and peace had fallen on board. Little sound could be heard but for the grumbling wheels against the steel. 

Bryan Ferry has been remixed by a talented roster of artists as part of a recent compilation forthcoming on BMG. Idjut Boys, Prins Thomas, Leo Zero and more all feature on the extensive release. It is with great pleasure that we present the Idjut Boys remix of 'Midnight Train'.

Off the back of their sold out album, Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca are set to release a limited run 12" featuring remixes of the highest order. 'Complotto Geometrico', 'Space Scribble' & 'A TV Show' are the tracks of choice, remixed by none other than Andy Weatherall, Prins Thomas and Luke Solomon respectively.

The Weatherall remix initiates with a gentle bounce. The synth lines begin to peak and trough whilst back-drafted guitar riffs ring home around the affected vocal sample that oozes in. A subtle cybernetic atmosphere builds around the melodic rhythm which in turn ebbs and flows through out. It’s seeping with that Weatherall magic, making it perfect for any time of night. 
After his previous collaborations with Lindstrom et. al. we we're very excited to see what Prins Thomas would conjure up for this remix. Cosmic energy instantly emanates from the mix, giving a lighter vibe to the melodic depth that the Weatherall mix delivered. It boasts slightly more acidic elements that switch the dancefloor mentality from 'steady groover' to 'floor-mover.'

To finish, Luke Solomon provides a weirdo-disco rendition, full of elastic synth work, a bumping house groove and plenty of raw soul. Probably the more energetic of the three, Solomon proves that he deserves his place as Disco House royalty.
