When we started this band in 2001 back in Brooklyn, no one in the NYC music scene had heard about the “Juneteenth” holiday... We took some real shit for having the name and doing what we did to try and raise the awareness of African American history and pride through our music… Now, it’s a national holiday in my ICal.
