An increasingly potent driving force in today’s techno environment, Georgia has through its key clubs Bassiani, Khidi and Mtkvarze, helped Tbilisi and its surroundings shape into of the most intriguing and reliable hotspots for emerging DJs and producers. One of its most talented heralds and a surefire groove rider at that, Yanamaste graces us with a choice two hours of the entrancingly deep and bumpy 4x4 epics he’s been laying down for INNSIGNN, Lyree and Khidi in recent times. Paced-up and animal to the core, his vision sweeps an extra wide range of shades and reliefs, nimbly moving the cursor from classic Berlin-inspired blends to full-fledged magmatic trance, via Birmingham-style projections and a solid dose of folk-infused harmonics. Raw yet technical, organic with a hint of hypermodern hoodoo to it, Yanamaste’s sound is the definition of hardware techno with soul, cut to ram-raid and elevate in equal measure.

"All I want to do is express what I love." The beloved Berghain resident talks about learning from failure, putting in the time and how good sound systems have changed his life.

Born and bred in Minneapolis, Zak Khutoretsky, AKA DVS1, has been throwing and playing raves for decades. Now 47, he's at the top of his game. As one of Berghain's most popular residents and a producer known for his deep and versatile sound, he's amassed thousands of followers around the world, releasing on Klockworks, Transmat and Ostgut Ton, in addition to his own label, HUSH.

Not just an artist, Khutoretsky has garnered a reputation for speaking critically about the challenges facing the electronic music community, notably through his essay about the battle between art and entertainment, and more recently through the inauguration of his revenue sharing platform ASlice. The organisation was designed in 2020 as an antidote to the pay disparity between DJ earnings and producer earnings, and its basic conceit is that DJs submit playlists of their tracks and share small percentages of their gig fees to be redistributed among the artists whose tracks they've played.

In this RA Exchange live from ADE, Khutoretsky talks with journalist Christine Kakaire about the platform and the impetus behind it, as well as his underlying tendency to be a "fixer,"  from the problems in his house to the issues he sees plaguing his community. Listen to the episode in full.

A member of New York City’s Georgian diaspora, 98dots (aka Nikoloz Gedevanishvili) is an expert in the art of getting a crowd moving. This is one of the freshest names to have come out Georgia in recent times, a slick mover whose confident selections are the makings of dancefloor legend. Aside from occasional DJ outings for The Lot Radio, you can also sometimes find him at The Big Apple’s hottest clubs and back on home turf at Horoom. Bassiani Podcast 191 is a fast burner, clocking in at 1h 24m, every minute as effortlessly cool as the one that came before it, full of moving parts that dance in perfect sync: gliding beats, notes of acid, something gripping and urban in its DNA, a forward-facing studio mix from this amazing local talent.

Nihad Tule is a DJ/Producer who likes to wear many hats, as solo artist (Nihad as well as Velež) and as part of collaborative projects Taken (with Elias Landberg) and NTTR-909 with Roseen (with a recent release on Tar Hallow). They’re all techno but each with a distinct flavour. The key ingredient they share is an unvacillating curiosity that typically has him experiment with his collection of hardware and allow himself to channel whatever weird sequences the moment provides. Much like his work behind decks, his sound is tailored for long-haul raving: a maverick mix of frugal bleeps and layer upon layer of rhythmic passion. His self-run label Sloboda is the place to look for the aforementioned. And here comes another. Bassiani Podcast 193 is all gas, no brakes. A turbocharged 75 minute techno paean from this long-serving clubland doyen.

Ho ho ho, the mystery-shrouded Rrose - named after Marcel Duchamp’s eponymous persona, punches in right on cue for Xmas with an absolute monster of a two-hour jaunt into their exquisitely twisted headspace. Having served up some of the finest techno slabs of the past decade through the likes of Sandwell District, Stroboscopic Artefacts and now their own dedicated imprint, Eaux, Rrose steps in the series with a bonkers mix of dusty techno hustle-and-bustle, neatly alternating sequences of pumping 4x4 aerobatics, searing, noise-adjacent outbursts and eerie melodies to hypnotic effect. A constant balancing act of raw power and haunting score, Rrose’s RYC mix takes us on a deep and fascinating trip into genre-unbound territories, where only abandon and wildness reign supreme. Continually pushing the boundaries between plain DJ-friendly functionality and abstract-leaning tendencies, Parisian producer Zadig has carved a niche for himself at the forefront of the European techno scene thanks to his quality-driven approach and keenness to explore the uncharted. Boss of the ever future-facing record label Construct Re-Form, whose name says it all about his take on the genre, Zadig keeps on dishing out challenging opuses in sound, naturally inclined to break down and reinvent old mechanisms rather than phrase it like everyone else. His blends, extrapolating relatively classic 4x4 rhythms to seemingly incompatible territories, are both bold statements and question marks altogether. Brace yourself for a two-hour field trip across jagged industrial reliefs and more laid-back, thought-provoking environments.
