Reincarnation

It’s become clear to many in the UK Dance Music scene, that Bristol has for some time now, been experiencing a huge surge in its creative sector. One in which progressive individuals and forward-thinking collectives have began carving up established musical landscapes in favour for more community based, DIY initiatives. With family feel radio stations such as Noods Radio providing a significant local platform on which to springboard such individuals and their creative ventures, the city now ushers in a fresh new wave of DJ’s, Producers, and Promoters through its doors each week. 

However, standing out amongst your peers and maintaining individuality in such a musically rich environment can be tough. But not for Tilly. Bristol based DJ and top-drawer selector Tilly has been on our watchlist since day one, and as such, we’re very proud to have her join the Neighbourhood Watch family. 

Originally from Gloucestershire, Tilly has spent the last 2 years DJing in and around Bristol, as well as performing every 4th Wednesday for her popular Noods Radio residency. Quickly building a reputation for her on point selections and refreshingly fluid approach to mixing between genres, Tilly commands a level of artistic awareness and respect amongst her peers that many artists spend years cultivating. With a brilliant debut appearance on NTS radio recently, the Bristol based DJ is expanding her reach at an impressive rate, proven most recently by Flo Dill’s glowing recommendation in STW, where Tilly is quoted as being her “Go to DJ at the moment”. 2019 sees Tilly continuing this one-woman ascent through the ranks, with bookings at UK Festivals and future appearances on NTS radio. 

NW006 is the perfect offering from this DJ on the up, providing a snapshot of Tilly’s eclectic tastes and - in her own words - her love for “anything weird and near nostalgic”. Rarely reaching the 120bpm mark that many absently minded adhere to, Tilly still manages to create an anthemic and peak time quality to her choice of down tempo dance tracks and genre bending vibes. Something that many find hard to achieve without a boost in tempo, Tilly seems to steer throughout effortlessly. Alice Gordon AKA Kiia is a name that many within the UK dance music scene will have no doubt come across during the last couple of years. A 20 something DJ based in Bristol, Kiia has spent the last 5 years building her artistic profile within the musically rich landscape that Bristol currently has to offer. With a residency at Bristol’s experimental D.I.Y night Dialogue, and monthly shows on 1020 Radio and Noods radio, Kiia is very much in demand, not only within the Bristol community, but on a much larger scale also. 

This was evidenced most recently when Kiia was selected for her efforts to become one of ten UK artists to take part in Smirnoff’s Equalizing Music, an initiative set up to provide 10 aspiring female artists access to first hand advice and mentorship programmes, with established artists such as American powerhouse Black Madonna. A well-deserved spotlight for Alice, this opportunity was topped off with a penultimate performance at London’s hottest warehouse venue Printworks in 2018. Add to this, the recent news that Kiia has been booked to play Love Saves The Day Festival and Glastonbury 2019, and it’s safe to forecast nothing but big things for this upcoming artist.

Co-founder of Cue - a popular Bristol based event series that has to date, hosted the likes of Desert Sound Colony, Cinnaman, Violet, and most recently Rosa Terenzi - Kiia looks to give back to her local Bristol scene by curating on point bookings in safe and exciting environments. This carefully thought out focus on selection and arrangement within events also translates into Kiia's refreshing mixing style and approach to track selection, often seeing her pull for less conventional dance music sub genres and bpm ranges to keep things fresh. It’s clear from listening to Alice’s work that her genuine passion and love for all things dance music is at the core of what she does, and her offering for the Neighbourhood Watch Mix Series is no different. 

Moving through a rich variety of flavours and moods, Kiia instinctively creates blends between sounds that not only complement one another, but that also juxtapose, paving the way for some very exciting transitions throughout. UK Garage and Techno/House variants rub shoulders effortlessly, carrying the ear through a diverse blend of peaks and throughs, and maintaining that characteristic UK approach to experimentation. All in all, it is the perfect accompaniment for the month of May, and we’re incredibly proud to have Kiia join the Neighbourhood Watch Family with NWM007, enjoy.
