Kit Records began in 2013 as a fortnightly broadcast of homespun miscellany on London's NTS Radio, hosted by Richard Greenan. The show soon grew to encompass record releases and live events, drawing together an inspirational network of artists, musicians and writers. 
For this special show, Richard plays old favourites, together with new releases on the label, including some unheard tracks from his own solo LP, "Rehearsing Heat", which is out in the summer.

Bristol-based illustrator and musician Adam Higton welcomes you back into the mossy realm of the Cosmic Neighbourhood. With each song acting as a response to a series of paper-and-scissors compositions, 'Collages II' documents the daily goings-on of an imagined world. 

Sonically, this record straddles new and old, taking modular electronics, flutes, bells and softly pattering drum machines, before colouring them all with the amber glow of some forgotten, psychedelic kids' TV programme. Higton's benign toots and echoing jingles bring to mind Daphne Oram's early delay experiments or the meandering playfulness of Tom Cameron. Radiophonic and time-worn, it still somehow sounds like the future.

This extraordinary album contains the results of five years' worth of research into new musical instruments and interfaces. Titled Meta Gesture Music: Embodied Interaction, New Instruments And Sonic Immersion, the anthology features musicians who crossed paths during Meta Gesture Music, a research project which ran between 2012–17 at London’s Goldsmiths College in order to explore new tools and techniques for experimental music making, from live computer coding to using bike lights and solar panels as instruments. 

The compilation contains new tracks by Goldsmiths professor of media computing Atau Tanaka, both solo and in duet with composer/pianist Sarah Nicolls, as well as Tom Richards performing on his Mini-Oramics set up, Kaffe Matthews making music with sharks in the sea, xname amplifying electromagnetic fields, Laetitia Sonami performing on her patented Spring Spyre, plus Leafcutter John, Renick Bell & Steph Horak, Dane Law, and Ewa Justka.

Introduced to us by Ben Vince, La Leif is the moniker of 24 year old South London producer Francine Perry.

La Leif’s music is gritty, it sits somewhere between leftfiel techno and a dystopian film soundtrack. La Leif performs fully analogue, so every set is unique. As well as making music Francine co-founded and runs the London based collective for female and non-binary music producers called Omnii.

Francine is an accomplished solo performer having played gigs across he UK and in Scandinavia, Hong Kong, and the Faroe Islands. Her remix of Leiik was played on BBC Radio 6 and featured by COMPLEX and DJ Mag Italia.

  This new material takes inspiration from the urban soundworld as apposed to the natural soundworld of her debut EP ‘The Nest’. It involves field recordings taken in Berlin and London, meshing industrial sounds into a deep listening and club context.

Otherworld is Kay Logan, a multi-disciplinary artist, instrumentalist and sound engineer from Airdrie, now living in Glasgow. Her guitar and bass work in sweaty, thrashing outfits like Herbert Powell and Anxiety are an inverse corollary to the curious tapestries in which Otherworld takes shape. The preternatural stylistic sensibility Logan exhibits in all of her work isn’t limited to sound, either – she’s a prodigious visual artist with the kind of signature sartorial sensibility that could launch a thousand ships, or lookalikes. Logan’s Otherworld project is a musique concrete excursion likely to appeal to fans of Zoviet France or Coil.

The premise is simple: I sit down with any and every South African composer and creator of music that will allow me to stick a recording device in their face, all while subjecting them each to the same questions week after week in an attempt to showcase (and catalogue) all the incredibly varied and wonderful musical voices South Africa has to offer.

This week, I am joined by Galina Juritz (The Night Light Collective/Mum Crush) and discuss nearly killing our audience with a motorcycle, unicorns in the bathtub and cosplaying as Salieri.

A sonic expedition that traces the serrated coastline and briny depths of the North Sea, Kystwerk sees Kit's resident lifeguard and aqua aficionado Roméo Poirier joining forces with Norwegian poet Lars Haga Raavand. Four years in the making, Kystwerk's palette is intoxicatingly vast: a sighing mass in turns opaque and rich with life. Swells of strings and electronics plunge fathoms deep amongst the clicks and whirrs of creatures unknown. Discordant, Copland-esque brass emerges, like some menacing flotsam, and mesmerising tows of piano chords recall the disjointed harmonies of Jonny Greenwood or Murcof. Then, to cement the trance, Raavand lilts and enounces delicately, before he too is swallowed up.

NX Records is a record label, radio station and interdisciplinary workspace housed in the Department of Music at Goldsmiths, University of London.

The label was founded as a collaboration between Goldsmiths and Matthew Herbert's ever-experimental Accidental Records. In May 2013, we launched with an introductory mixtape and live performances at the Southbank Centre.

The label has continued to grow, releasing critically acclaimed music by Goldsmiths students and graduates, whilst hosting numerous workshops, events, and running a pop up record shop in New Cross.

NX has been managed by London artist, DJ and writer Richard Greenan, since 2018. In 2024, Accidental stepped aside from their NX duties, and Richard's own record label and NTS Radio show, Kit Records, began running NX in collaboration with Goldsmiths. 

The label's mission statement is to create a new model for the music industry, connecting exciting talent from the renowned creative hub of Goldsmiths – and the wider community of South East London – with the forward-thinking and collaborative Kit Records.

Our aim is to build connections between emerging artists, education, the industry and audiences. NX is a professional label that works alongside, not in opposition with, DIY artists.
