The elements that make up this song were almost all captured live with a Zoom recorder randomly from the streets, events, concerts ... There is a shovel digging gravel, a coffee maker, a cough in a concert hall, an electric heating, a firework in the basque country, and so on!

Everything was assembled & modified on my trusty MPC before a twilight synthesizer melody (Korg Monologue) was added. All this deals with the coming insurrection ...

Les éléments qui composent ce morceau ont presque tous été capté en live avec un enregistreur Zoom aux hasards de la vie, des rues, des événements, des concerts... On y trouve un coup de pelle dans des graviers, une cafetière, un toussotement dans une salle de spectacle, un feu d'artifice au pays basque, un chauffage électrique, et j'en passe !

I flip the switch and watch my beams of dark pervert the course of natural light;

The book of smiles is gently closed again, to morph the focus of the clown,
And all the while the ghost of Emmett Kelly sweetly bends and folds and wraps itself around.
I know just this, as so it goes, my greasepaint mists rise soft as funereal pillars on tarragon air,
And blow a bitter kiss to the chrome politicos, life-chance serial killers, 
Their absolutions rent with arrogant flair.

And so, goodbye, wet sentient corpse in which what's me has hades-lived.
Lunatic humanity, inhumane insanity of spent remorse is more than I can e'er forgive.
So ripe the stench of moral theft, the parliamentary pocket pickers, 
Senatorial objects of the cripple orphan's legacy bereft, 
Stole to buy the crackpot projects of the deafened right and blinded left.
Sequential crimes so deft impart the tabloids' craven bumper stickers, their
Purchase of the heavy votes, the most depraven,
The blackest hearts, clad of darkest coats.

Ah, but enough, enough.  Now all excuse forsaken, the term is hereby duly ended.  
My eternal future rudely naked, lies nearby, undefended
By the advocate's weeping trope.
And thus with thoughts that grope within; 
The kick of chair, the taut of rope, 
The judgement, where, as twitching pulse with breath elopes, 
For the clamour of the other-worldly circus fair.

Intention

Departing from a raw, experimental sound in Timestamps, ny_kol's sophmore album "Aftermath" showcases a more defined identity to his musical prowess. It features instrumental styles heavily inspired by the late 80's, early 90's era and energetic chord progressions, while keeping a more modern pop-approach to his vocals and still staying true to the use of night-time synthetic pads, upbeat drums and electronic bass that precedes his reputation.

ny_kol envisions this long-play to be more of a concept album than its predecessor; a collective story born of experience from his previous romantic encounters that ended in disarray. Thus, this album is explicitly divided into two halves of excitement and despair, with skits and interludes in between to promise a more cinematic experience for his listeners.

I wrote this back in 2009. I've revamped it a bit and cleaned up some issues I wasn't aware of back then, theory-wise. Always trying to improve my game.

Wild Flowers

ny_kol (pronounced nee-CALL) often describes himself as an enthusiast of the musical arts, where he proudly showcases this in the songs he composes and produces by himself. He makes sure that he always stays true to himself when writing his songs, thus adding a heartfelt touch to his intricate lyrics and passionate melodies. The three criteria that adequately describe his genre of sounds are 'night-time music', 'speaking from the heart' and 'synthetic pop music'. Hence, his versatility ranges from slow dance and soft ballads, to upbeat night drive tunes. His songs might present with an 'alternate' style of genre due to the heavy use of drums and base, but thanks to his pop-oriented vocal melodies, his songs could reach a modest balance of both pop and indie lovers alike. 

Getting signed as an independent artist is an understatement of ambition, where in more heartfelt terms, ny_kol deeply wishes to embrace his songs by connecting to a wider audience and engaging in live performances. His songs mean the world to him, therefore he believes they need the love and attention they deserve.
