For the 158th edition of Desert Hut Podcast Series, we’re pleased to welcome Saint Evo.

Saint Evo, one of the pioneer producers of the Afrohouse sound in East Africa and the progenitor of the Afrobango sound, opines that musical freedom is a priceless commodity that demands constant vigilance at the altar of creativity in order to guarantee its longevity. Hailing from Kajiado County home of the famed Maasai people, he has endeavored to capture and acoustically produce sounds from the Equatorial region of Africa, fusing them with vocals from unique artists from across the globe.
Accordingly, the past few years have witnessed his musical productions making a mark on international music platforms, releasing musical gems with respectable record labels from Africa, Europe & North America. Some of the productions that have received international critical acclaim are musical tracks such as Tawada (Remix), Tuhan, Wiyyan, Lespri, Ecouter, Mntwana, Abantu Betshe and many others.
As a DJ, his sets are characterized by an array of African drums infused with smithereens of fecund slivers of synths and basslines of electronic music. Some of the places he has played at are such as Beneath the Baobabs (Kenya), The Mix Marrakech (Morocco), Black Coffee: Muze Open Air (Kenya), Africa House (Zanzibar), Blu Beach Taghazout (Morocco), Fambula (Kenya), The Office (Uganda), Six Degrees (Zanzibar), Sarabi Pool & Supper Club (Kenya), Wilder Festival (Kenya) among others.

Since 2008, O-RAY has been captivating audiences with his dynamic DJ skills. His name is synonymous with powerful bass lines, ethnic percussions, and sensual melodies. 

His current sound is a captivating fusion of tech-house and techno rhythms paired with uplifting, soulful melodies that echo the essence of old-school house. He also seamlessly incorporates chill afro house and amapiano sounds, creating a versatile and immersive musical experience.

Between 2009 and 2014, O-RAY was a prominent figure in Montreal's club scene, performing at renowned venues like Salon Daome, Red Room (Joverse), Velvet, and more. A notable highlight of his career was in 2013 when he collaborated with TTBA Event Lab to launch Habitat (1458 de la Montagne) in Montreal. This new club became a hotspot, hosting acclaimed DJs such as Butch, Yokoo, Oxia, Gab Rhome, Audiofly, Jimpster, Izhevski, Edu Imbernon, Lucca Baccheti, NU, Danny Howells, East End Dubs, James What, among others.

After a 6-year hiatus to focus on his professional career, O-RAY made a return to the music scene in 2020 as a co-founder of https://soundcloud.com/soundmomentevents. Since then, he has been instrumental in organizing electrifying parties in Montreal, and channeling his unique energy and creativity into each event and setting a new standard in the music scene.
