Releasing my debut album has been one of my most meaningful life-experiences, and apart from the times playing my livesets, I seem to never have found a right moment to share it personally with the world. Today it has been exactly one year since the release-date, so this should be a good moment.

"Kindred Phenomena marks Mattheis' debut album. After two cosmic EPs on Nous'klaer and a mini-album on tape for Ecstatic Recordings, he now returns to Nous'klaer for his first full story. An album shaped for every occasion: driving from the city to the island, dancing in the living room, or raving at sunset. On Kindred Phenomena Mattheis picks up where he left off: 'Swell' serves as another episode of the prisms, the modular synth excursion of 'Bit Fragments' pushes his arpeggiator solos a step further, and album standout 'Ben_M' provides his most beautiful dance of melodies yet. Leng Records is kicking off its 2019 release program by offering a debut to a previously unheralded producer from Russia’s fast growing nu-disco underground. Given the quality of the two original tracks on show on his first Leng outing, something tells us that we’re going to be hearing much more from Moscow-based Takovoi in the months and years ahead.

On the A-side you’ll find “5-2-9”, an effortlessly dreamy and Balearic affair that ebbs, flows and slowly unfurls over six spellbinding minutes. The track is built around a chunky, acid style bassline and loose, delay-laden drum machine beats. Yet it’s the drifting and dubbed-out musical elements that cluster around the groove – leisurely keys, yearning trumpet solos and kaleidoscopic, arpeggio style synthesizer melodies – that make “5-2-9” such a magical piece of music. Think of it as a statement of intent.

Takovoi’s love of TB-303 style acid lines and mind-altering electronics comes to the fore on “The Fox With The Dog” which sees the up-and-coming producer give his take on the timeless electro sound. It’s as spacey and atmospheric as you’d expect, with exotic electronic refrains and glacial synthesizer lines dancing across the sound-space. The groove – a combination of punchy drum machine hits, heavy acid-style sub-bass, occasional bursts of hand percussion and breakbeats – is pleasingly heavy, too, making this particular electro excursion a bona fide dancefloor delight.

This long awaited cd compilation marks the end of Mark Stewart's 'Warehouse Sessions', with all the tracks in the series re-mastered at Berlin's dubplates and mastering including a bonus, previously unreleased track, 'W6' available for the first time. 

Thieves

Nico Bulla converted photos into tracks for his debut EP a while back. Some friendos now turned these transformations into three reworks for the Motive Remix EP. Grizzly takes the progressive character of Orange Horizon to another level and creates an epic journey of a track. Pandaro mutates the same Original into a deep dream of broken beats and hypnotic harmonies. To close it off Lootbeg completely flips Reflections and comes out with a powerful yet melancholic Club Mix.
