A Polymetric Experiment

This is one of my absolute favorite songs to play. Written by the GREAT Duke Ellington.
Recorded in 2015

In a Mellow Tone (Trio)

This song represents a lot of angst I've got going on right now. The oddly syncopated, thumping rhythms represent the lack of control I feel over my life. Life is hard to predict, and it's hard to keep up. The piano stands out on its own, but sometimes gets drowned out by waves of sound. Feelings of loneliness are only amplified by diverted attention.

I also just made all that up. :P

If you didn't notice, the song's hard to count. That's because the beginning and end are in "19/8" time, or three bars of 5 followed by one bar of 4. The middle is in 5/4, or 10/8 if you prefer.

I wrote this on a whim and decided to see where it would take me. Hope you like it. Won't kill me if you don't.
