Although sound is his medium, what is seen is central to Larionov’s new 12”; I Want To Believe. After scanning the heavens, the Russian producer lands with six tracks that encompass a spectrum of electronics. A glistening dawn of bright melodies and murky basslines introduces “Morning Light”, crisp percussion adding balance and ballast. Aquatic lines and soulful arcs are at the core of “Across the Sky” before the bold synth stabs and rasping rhythms of “External Twilight.” Illuminating the flip is the sci-fi inspired “Strange Lights” with the eclipsing shades and tones of “Shadows” darkening speakers while igniting floors. The close is the future gazing “Space and Time.” Fluid strings, reverberating arpeggiators and vocoder lyrics are kept in check by incising snares in this superb finale.

Luminous Machines, the eighth album by UK based Emile Facey recording under his Plant43 alias, is made up of eight dancefloor tracks and eight cinematic interludes all of which are inspired by visits overseas to play live in 2023.

Emile: “The eight dancefloor tracks were all written just before gigs at Tresor in Berlin, for their new electro focussed event, Aquabahn, and the Drift Festival in Nijmegen, which happened on a very hot, sunny day in June. For some reason I’m always inspired to write new material immediately before a gig. I find it’s a good way to capture how I’m feeling in that moment and there’s something both cathartic and inspiring about playing a new track live, knowing it didn’t exist a few days beforehand. Once home in the studio, I completed eight of these new tracks to form the core of the album.

The cinematic interludes which make up the rest of the album came about during the same trip to Berlin In April 2023. I arrived for a gig at Tresor with a whole day to spare and there was an atmosphere in the city that I felt compelled to capture. It was a warm but grey and rainy day, the neon lights glowing faintly in the mist as people rushed from door-to-door under umbrellas, trams were quietly gliding in and out of an elevated station platform while various other smaller vehicles busily scurried around the entrance to a giant shopping mall just outside the window of my compact hotel room...

When I was back home I realised that I had 16 tracks that worked together as a whole. I’d experimented before with putting short beatless tracks on my electro records, adding a bit more atmosphere, and my instinct was to put them all on the double vinyl edition. However, having just played at some events where DJs were playing vinyl, I wanted these records to be DJ friendly. The solution I landed on was to create two different versions of the album, the eight dancefloor tracks on the vinyl and the cinematic interludes completing the sixteen track digital, cinematic edition. Clocking in at an hour long, together they form my soundtrack to those Luminous Machines I was dreaming of in Berlin.”

For this second opus, we continue our momentum and we're offering a various artists composed of 4 tracks.

The EP opens on the track " Prendre l'Air " by Vitess. We find the signature of the young producer with a neat and precise production, all enhanced by a millimetric breakbeat and an airy atmosphere, backed by an acid lead.The second track is produced by Pépé Elle who offers here a one-way ticket to England with his UKG infused "Carbon Dance" track. We find all the markers of the style, from syncopated rhythmics to powerful wobble bass. Perfect to turn a club upside down on any circumstance.

The Italians from MDC open the B side with the track Bouncing. The atmosphere gets darker and sweatier. We find grimmy vocals, a heady and efficient acid bassline. The Ep closes on the track The Resistance by Wilt. We continue to evolve in darker atmospheres with a tension that is created throughout the track without ever failing, all supported by a powerful breakbeat that will leave no one intact.

Biography: Hailing from Stockholm, music maker since the late 90’s with  debut release on the legendary Skam Records of Manchester in 2001 (much associated with the likes of Gescom / Autechre). Eventually, the current moniker Obergman emerged on genre-essential labels like Stilleben Records, Abstract Forms and Brokntoys; marking the direction towards a more purified sound. Subsequent releases for Börft Records and Furthur Electronix etc, has offered various hybrid forms of electro, acid and proto-techno. Furthermore, a continuous string of releases for some of the most cherished labels within the genre are being launched on a steady pace.
