In 1978, after listening to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds album late into the night, Billy Noknees found himself consumed with terror. Convinced that Martian heat rays were descending on his home, he reportedly sleepwalked into his kitchen in an attempt to escape, ultimately wedging himself into the fridge to get away from the heat rays The bizarre ordeal left him shaken—and inspired.

The next morning, Billy stormed into the studio, insisting he needed to capture the sheer horror of his “Martian encounter” in song. The result was War o’ the Worlds, a disco track with dramatic overtones and a touch of sci-fi madness. Recorded with producer Rick “Ricky” Rickfield, the track featured pulsating basslines, eerie synths, and Billy’s unmistakable vocals delivering lines like, “The sky was torn, with flames of red, The Martians rose, the Earth in dread”

The session was predictably chaotic. Billy insisted the studio thermostat be turned up to simulate the oppressive heat of the Martian invasion, leaving everyone sweating through their takes. At one point, Billy grabbed a fire extinguisher and began spraying it around the room, shouting that he was “fighting back against the Martian flames.” Rick, already struggling to keep the session on track, drew the line when Billy tried to drag a mini-fridge into the vocal booth for “authenticity.”

Despite the chaos, War of the Worlds was completed, a peculiar blend of disco grooves and apocalyptic paranoia. The track, however, was too strange even for OBIISSS fans, and it was quietly released as a limited-run 12" vinyl. Most copies vanished into obscurity, and the song was largely forgotten.

Decades later, in 2007, a single copy of War of the Worlds was discovered in the back room of a thrift store in Phoenix, Arizona, hidden behind a stack of sci-fi paperbacks. Now, remastered with the magic of AI, the track is presented in its original sleeve—a surreal design of 4 legged "Tripods".
