From the initial feeling of chaos, from the first impression of nothingness, are born improbable lines that scatter in the surrounding space. Colliding before our confused eyes, the pattern turns around and returns to its core. The meanders – yet linear – embodies the uncertainty where the sounds unfold. Where our mind wanders. Where our thoughts fly away.

I created this track in collaboration with the researchers from the Algomus team: http://www.algomus.fr/. This track is our contribution for the AI Song Contest 2021. The song is a co-creative experiment in shaping music, transforming our way of thinking and generating sound. The composer brings his own chords and melodies, which are mixed and re-generated using algorithms designed by the music research team. Seeking to capture new emotions in that AI music content, the composer selects, designs, and organizes chords, melodies, and sounds in subtle lines scattered in the music space.

Oblik Lines - Infinity

This track came mostly from a piano improvisation - intro of the track - I did when I was trying to experiment with harmonic colors. It was one of the first musical idea of the EP and later I re-sampled the piano part to create the body of the track. I enjoyed to melt creative processes together and it was fun to sample my own piano part and to look at it from another perspective, as a hip-hop producer might have used it. Then, I infused the track with elements of glitch / 8bit aesthetics.

This track differs a bit in terms of sound color compared to other tracks from the EP. I finished the track after a trip in Japan and you can hear that the mood is different from the other tracks. A lot more lightweight in terms of emotions, even a bit too much to my taste when I listen to it back! I decided to keep the track in the EP but as a bonus.

This track is my contribution to the collaborative EP "Pluration I" featuring Rustre, Plasma Rüby, Julian Schäfer, Ext Sleep and Andrés Grosso. 

"Pluration I" is the result of old recordings brought back and re-imagined in new compositions. The source material for these new pieces consisted in unfinished songs, raw demos, random takes and found sounds as field recordings and domestic sounds, some with over a decade of stillness. All collected sounds were shared so all artists could start from the same source, but combine it in new, different ways to create their very own sonic spaces.

CONCEPT
The concept of Misty Valley came about when I was trying to create a “blurred” synthesizer sound as part of my musical project Oblik Lines. By “blurred” I mean those intriguing synthesizer sounds you can find in such music by Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Rival Consoles or Alessandro Cortini, to name a few. These sounds can be described as unstable and imprecise, which makes them more human/organic. I took inspiration from the analogue synths from the late 70s/80s and designed this subtractive synthesizer with just two oscillators. Other functions within modules are then added to emphasize this blurring effect. These include: the Drifter, which replicated the pitch instability of tape machines; and the Tape Sampler to add tape noise in the signal chain to reinforce the LoFi/Organic feel.
As you may have guessed, Misty Valley is not a clean or multi-purpose synthesizer, rather it focuses at creating a very distinctive and unique misty sound.

Misty Valley, includes 75 presets that I have split in 4 sound banks:
- Blurred noises: an overload of noisy sounds
- Unstable textures: dreamy / soaring sounds with a touch of noise 
- Almost clean: classical analog sounds with some noise
- Noise beds: atmospheric noise pads
There's also a standard "By Categorie" folder for quick search.

Oblik Lines is the project of Sébastien Gulluni, a French composer and sound designer involved in electronic music with a certain cinematic feel.

As a former researcher in the field of computer music, Sebastien's work for Oblik Lines emphasis a desire to discover new sound colors and melt genres  by experimenting. His work combines melodic and textural material by using computers, hardware synthesizers and acoustic instruments. The result of these experiments is an organic mixture, definitively melodic. Sebastien claims the universality of music to transmit human emotions and creates a music that is both thought and accessible. To this end, he uses melodies and textures as a recall of our personal experiences.
