Helsinki-based composer and electronic musician Viktor Toikkanen presents an EP ‘Meme Concréte’ under his new alias Zaum. The release studies the possibilities of loop-based composition formats and trance-inspired melodies - Their interaction contributes to an aesthetic which gives room to synchronicity and sudden revelations in repetition which is deliberate in its execution.
While composing the release at hand Toikkanen was inspired by Finnish Instagram meme culture, and its repetitive but carefully curated streams of pictures. While Toikkanen’s musical craft reflects upon the daily repetition of social and informational cycles, Meme Concréte manages to create something greater than the sum of its parts - beautiful and contemplative in its essence.

just a simple demo of the wonderful am sounds from the cg products xr22 vco. a sine wave modulates the am in audio rate. changes of frequency of carier and modulator by hand at random, modulator morphs into saw wave sometimes. delay from c0.

XR22 VCO AM

a simple demo of the FSK part of the XR22 VCO. FSK means frequency shift keying, the single vco has two frequency controls, manual and with cv, by applying a gate to the FSK in one can change the path of the incoming freq cv information (also in audio rate wonderful). i feed the vco two related pitch cv information from an asr. if the gate is time related and carefully shifted the resulting tones sound like trills or an modulated sequencer. sound is then selfmodulated by square into am in. c0 delay.
